Specification BROKER'S COMMENTS Lyle Hess is one of the most respected designers of offshore cruising boats and CONSTANCE owes her lines to both RENEGADE and SERAFFYN, that were to start a revolution in small boat long distance cruising. She appears a sturdy little boat with attractive detail both above and below deck - CONSTANCE would be as useful on family weekend adventures as she would be heading for blue water. When asked if there was a common quality running through his designs, the response from Hess was “…..Bring skipper and crew home in one piece, no matter what”

LYLE HESS GAFF CUTTER
Specification HISTORY
Built from plans bought from Lyle C Hess, of California the designer renowned for the well known yachts SERAFFYN and TALEISIN of Pardey Commissioned in 1994, she has been enhanced subsequently and enjoyed a fame as well as the Bristol Channel Cutters, Sam Morse Co and other GRP variety of sailing including low key classics and gaffer races, classic boat production yachts, the hull is identical to SERAFFYN and that of the first festivals and cruising - South Wales, Scilly and Brittany. She has proved safe Hess design RENEGADE. Some dimensions differ; the cabin 9 inches longer and easy to manage for both single handing and family sailing. Her owner, and the cockpit shorter by the same amount. The bowsprit bitts were also needing a larger yacht for his growing family reluctantly puts CONSTANCE moved one frame further forward 9 inches to add space in the fore cabin. on the market but has yet to find a prettier yacht to replace her. Commissioned from the International Boat Building Training College in Lowestoft as hull, deck, cabin top and spars she was completed to that extent in 1989. Her Canadian owner a specialist boat interior fitter was to complete the fit out then aiming to follow the “Pardey” dream of long term world cruising. Changed circumstances forced his move back to Canada leaving CONSTANCE laid up incomplete until 1993 when he decided to sell, “as is where is” then in Wivenhoe UK. Her buyer moved her to Salcombe for completion by Winter Marine Yard, Traditional Sail (John Moody) and Starey Marine.
