What is CANZUK freedom of movement?

CANZUK freedom of movement would grant citizens of Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom (the “CANZUK” countries) the freedom to live, work and travel in each of these countries without the requirement of visas or work permits. Instead, citizens of these countries would travel and migrate freely under similar provisions to those of the Trans-Tasman Travel Agreement which already exists between Australia and New Zealand.

International polling within these countries shows that a vast majority of citizens support freedom of movement between the CANZUK countries:

CANZUK freedom of movement:

could be implemented with the accession of Canada and the United Kingdom to the Trans-Tasman Travel Agreement which already exists between Australia and New Zealand

could easily be negotiated as part of upcoming trade negotiations following the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union

What we propose:

The governments of Australia and New Zealand negotiate an accession agreement for Canada and the United Kingdom to join the Trans-Tasman Travel Agreement

Once implemented, free movement rights only apply to those with valid Canadian, Australian, New Zealand and British passports

Travel rights be restricted for those with serious criminal convictions and major health conditions, as per the current arrangements between Australia and New Zealand

CANZUK citizens have permission to undertake any form of employment in their host country, with no restrictions regarding sponsorship applications or work permits

Spousal, work, study, travel and employment visas will not apply to Canadian, Australian, New Zealand or British citizens when residing within the CANZUK countries

CANZUK citizens will not be eligible for social-welfare payments (such as unemployment benefits or disability benefits) until 4 years from the date of arrival in their host country
