INCIDENT FACTS Incident Start Date: 09/04 /2020 Incident Start Time: 6:33 p.m. Incident Type: Wildland Fire Cause: Under Investigation Incident Location: Both sides of the near Mammoth Pool, Shaver Lake, Big Creek and . Forest/CAL FIRE Units: , CAL FIRE Units Fresno-Kings and Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unified Command Agencies: Northern Rockies Team 4, CAL FIRE, Team 14, Fresno and Madera County Sheriffs Size: 333,880 Containment: 49% Firefighter Injuries/Fatalities: 18 injuries/0 fatalities Expected Full Containment: 10/31/2020 Structures Threatened: 119 Structures Destroyed: 856* Structures Damaged: 71* CURRENT SITUATION Current Weather Information: Situation: A Pacific disturbance will push ashore along the California coast today bringing clouds and temporarily cool conditions. Measurable rainfall is not expected. High pressure will again build onshore from the Pacific next week, becoming gradually stronger while producing warmer and much dryer conditions through the upcoming week. Smoke will remain present overnights and into the mornings, with some air quality improvement during the afternoons as local winds develop. Critical fire weather conditions are possible by around Wednesday, due to minimal Relative Humidity recovery at night and development of warmer than normal temperatures. Reduced smoke should open up air operations, particularly on west flank areas of the fire. Under the influence of strong SW winds, smoke will likely be pushed in the direction of Mono Hot Springs.

Fresno County-SOUTH ZONE: The Sierra National Forest will allow individuals who were evacuated from campgrounds, camping areas and cabins in the South Zone of the fire an opportunity to return and collect their belongings again this weekend, October 10 and 11. Please follow this link for more information on how to obtain an access permit. Permit Holder Access/Recreation Residence

Some residents remain evacuated in the areas of Mono Hot Springs, Vermillion Resort, Muir Trail Ranch, Blayney Meadow and Florence Lake. Crews will take advantage of the

cooler weather temperatures and plan for direct attack as weather permits. The North East area around Edison Lake and Vermillion Camp crews will be going direct to secure the containment lines.

Crews will continue suppression repair around the perimeter of the fire, resource advisors have identified areas and will be working to mitigate this situation. Smoke will be seen in the general area as fire personnel continue to strengthen the fire perimeter. Smoke from other fires in the state has become apparent in the Central Valley adding to the poor air quality. Please use caution while driving as heavy congestion is expected on Hwy 168 through the weekend.

Madera County-NORTH ZONE: Crews are making good progress mopping up along the western perimeter taking advantage of the cooler weather. Small pockets of dense and intense heat continue to persist within the fire area. Fire fighters in the Little Shuteye Peak area will be aided by helicopter bucket drops today, if conditions are favorable as they mop-up, patrol, and secure this section of line. The northern area of the fire continues to creep in small pockets of intense heat, but remains hung up in the granite formations. Road and structure groups are working together along the 81 Road corridor using chippers and faller modules, and will also begin suppression repair today. These areas have heavy smoke at times and are creating poor visibility and safety concerns. The fire is 10 miles west of Mammoth Lakes; little forward progression is occurring due to the natural barriers of rock and the Lions Fire (2018) burn scar. Conditions continue to be monitored very closely. Please respect the Temporary Flight Restriction. The use of drones is not permitted over the fire area. A drone incursion will result in the grounding of all firefighting aircraft. Remember, "If you fly - We can't."
