After high school, I found myself at my first Alumni public school: Oregon State University. Without religious formation, without my family, without Catholic friends, my church attendance became sporadic and if anything my spiritual life shrank. After that first hard year, I needed knee surgery so I moved back in with my parents. After ligament reconstruction surgery, I became totally dependent on my parents. However, I felt as if I faced the summer alone. During this transition, I became depressed. My days were filled with a mixture of taking online summer classes and being trapped in my house. I was filled with enormous anxiety and unrest. My parents were trying to help and support, but that unrest I found within myself was something they couldn’t help me with. Finally summer ended. Back at school, I put my entire self into my job as a residential assistant. My job was my life, my identity. I barely saw the friends that I had made freshman year because
