TO JESUS THROUGH MARY

To Jesus through Mary April Focus – Glorious Mysteries April Virtue of the Month – Justice

During April we focus our attention on the virtue of justice. In A Pastoral Reflec- tion on Lay Discipleship for Justice in a New Millennium (USCCB, 1998), we are reminded that “Catholicism does not call us to abandon the world, but to help shape it. This does not mean leaving worldly tasks and responsibilities, but transforming them. Catholics are everywhere in this society. We are corporate executives and migrant farm workers, senators and wel- fare recipients, university presidents and day care workers, tradesmen and farmers, office and factory workers, union leaders and small business owners. Our entire community of faith must help Catholics to be instruments of God's grace and creative power in business and politics, factories and offices, in homes and schools and in all the events of daily life. Social justice and the common good are built up or torn down day by day in the countless decisions and choices we make. This vocation to pursue justice is not simply an individual task -- it is a call to work with others to humanize and shape the institutions that touch so many people. The lay vocation for justice cannot be carried forward alone, but only as members of a community called to be the "leaven" of the Gospel.” This week, let us pause and ponder whether or not our daily decisions and choices promote justice in our families, schools, Church, and world.

BLESSED OILS

The use of oil has many applications in daily life such as cleansing as part of a bath, limbering up the mus- cles of athletes, and healing the wounds of the sick. In Holy Week, the bishop consecrates the blessed oils used throughout the liturgical year. Sacred Chrism is used to anoint the newly baptized, to confer the Sac- rament of Confirmation, and to anoint bishops and priests during the celebration of the Sacrament of Holy Orders. Two other sacramental celebrations make use of blessed oil: “The pre-baptismal anointing with the oil of catechumens signifies cleansing and strengthening; the anointing of the sick expresses healing and comfort (CCC, no.1294). The Oil of Catechumens is used in Baptism. The Oil of the Sick is used for the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.

PILGRIMAGE 2018: WALKING HIS WAY

IHM’S 2018 GALA

The HSA would like to express our sincere gratitude to Gala Chairs; Tressa Catalina, Leslye Wark, Amy Marta, and Lindsay Burns for their ceaseless dedication and year of effort in coordinating an amazing and successful evening for our IHM Community. It was a wonderful night out with the added benefit of providing funds for completion of the school/parish playground project. It is truly amazing what a group of volunteers can create when they band together and commit to a common goal.

We would also like to acknowledge the Gala Committee and all of the volunteers (both adult and youth) who gave of their time and talents to stage this successful event. Nights such as these could not occur without your assistance.

Lastly, we would like to recognize all of the people from our IHM Community: parents, teachers, admin- istrators, parishioners, friends, and family who came out to enjoy the night and have some fun all while supporting IHM School. The Gala would not be successful without your backing. Thank you.

The IHM Home and School Association

Dear Kaitlin Reilly:

On behalf of the American Heart Association and the millions of Americans we serve, thank you very much for your school's donation of *$8,928.00. Families and schools are critical links in providing the foundation for cardiovascular wellness in our country. By holding this event at your school each year, you raise awareness about heart-healthy living. And you help us fund more lifesaving scientific research and critically needed education efforts. Thank you.

Almost every family in America is touched by heart disease or stroke, and your school's contribution will significantly impact our fight against these devastating illnesses.

We hope that you, your faculty and your students found this lifesaving effort rewarding and enjoyable. You are touching so many lives — and life is why we exist as an organization. Your help and support are greatly appreciated, and we look forward to partnering again with you next year!

Warm regards,

Nancy Brown Chief Executive Officer, American Heart Association
