    THE MALTESE ISLANDS MALTA, GOZO, COMINO COMINOTTO, FILFLA AND ST PAUL'S ISLET The Maltese archipelago lies virtually at the center of the Mediterranean 93 km south of Sicily and 288 km north of Africa. The Maltese archipelago, consists of mainly three islands: Malta, Gozo and Comino. The archipelago is named after Malta which is the largest island of the group. MALTA Malta is an advanced economy. The country is a member of the European Union and enjoys sunny weather nearly all the year. San Ġiljan is a town in the Central Region of Malta. It is known for tourism- oriented businesses, such as hotels, restaurants and nightclubs which are centred mainly in an area known as Paceville. Spinola bay Malta is about 316 km2 with population of over 400,000 inhabitants. Valletta, is the capital city of Malta. Valletta Kalkara Marina is situated in picturesque Kalkara Creek in the heart of Malta’s Grand Harbour. Kalkara Marina Marsascala is an ancient fishing village, with a picturesque bay and a good restaurants, located in the southeast corner of the island.     Social Programme Gateway’S Social Programme Will Help You Make the Most of Your Time in Malta

    Social Programme Gateway’s social programme will help you make the most of your time in Malta. Students can take advantage of the varied and inclusive Activity Programme which is built around exciting and cultural engaging activities. We strongly believe that culture and leisure are an important part of learning, and Malta offers many exhilarating and rewarding possibilities both for the young as well as for the mature. These activities give you a chance to meet fellow students and make new friends while practising your English. While on a school-organised activity, students are accompanied by the school’s group leader and a fully licensed guide when visiting historical places such as Valletta (Malta’s capital city). Return transport is also organised by the school. Here are some examples of Gateway’s social programme: Winter & Summer Excursions: Marsaxlokk Fishing Village & Blue Grotto Beach + Hagar Qim & Mnajdra Temples (FULL DAY TRIP): We will travel to the fishing village of Marsaxlokk where students can walk around the Sunday market where a variety of local goods and souvenirs are on offer. Afterwards, we will journey to Pretty Bay (a sandy beach in the village of Birzebugia) followed by Wied iz-Zurrieq (Blue Grotto) - the most popular rocky beach in the south of the island where one can also take a boat trip to the grotto (Boat Trip not included). On the way to Blue Grotto we will also stop for a short visit at Hagar Qim and Mnajdra Temples which are the world’s oldest free standing religious structures and UNESCO world heritage sites.
