Superannuation of Dr. Sushama Bavle

Felicitation to Dr. Sushama Bavle, Principal, mLAC on her Superannuation Handing over charge to Dr. Shahsikala A as Principal, mLAC on 31st October 2020.

Reminiscence of Late Dr. T L Shantha

The third death anniversary of former Director and Principal Dr. T.L. Shantha was commemorated on 9th November 2020. The Principal and staff of mLAC paid their respects to the departed soul and reminisced her contributions to the institution in making it a leading educational institution in .

Examination and Declaration of Results

Amidst Covid-19 uncertainties, mLAC marched towards its journey of successful completion of the online examination and the declaration of results for the final semester of UG & PG courses. To add another feather in its cap of examination endeavour, mLAC resorted to digital valuation of the PG examination and emerged as pioneers, the act of which has been appreciated and acknowledged by the teaching fraternity of other colleges and the university. Sad Demise of our Chairman mLAC, Prof. Roddam Narasimha

A world-renowned Indian aerospace scientist and fluid dynamicist, our beloved Chairman, Padma Vibhushan Prof. Roddam Narasimha passed away on 14th December, 2020. He was acquainted with several prestigious institutions in India and abroad. He was a professor of Aerospace Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science (1962–1999), director of the National Aerospace Laboratories (1984–1993) and the chairman of the Engineering Mechanics Unit at Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR, 2000–2014). He was the DST Year-of- Science Chair Professor at JNCASR and concurrently held the Pratt & Whitney Chair in Science and Engineering at the University of Hyderabad. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India's second- highest civilian award, in 2013. The trustees, Principal, faculty and staff of mLAC condole his demise.

Green Diwali Campaign Department of Chemistry, Botany and Zoology in association with Environmental Management and Policy Re- search Institute, Bengaluru organized “Green Diwali Campaign” on 13th November 2020 at mLAC Campus with the intention of creating awareness on air and water pollution and health issues caused by bursting crackers.

The felicitation programme began with an invocation song by Ms. Bharathi, retired SDC, mLAC office. Dr. Vijaydeep compeered the function. Dr. Shashikala A, Principal, Prof. Sharmistha Dutta, IQAC Coordinator, Dr. Renuka Srihari, COE, Dr. Nagalaskhmi B N, HOD, Department of Chemistry and staff members of library spoke about the contributions of Ms. Amsaveni K towards the growth of Library.

Faculty achievements

• Ms. Vijayadeep C., HOD, Department of Microbiology, was awarded PhD degree in Microbiology on 18th Nov 2020 from Tumkur University on the thesis entitled “Bioremediation Potentials of Certain Microorganisms from Mining Areas of Tumkur and Chitradurga Districts of ” under the guidance of Dr. Jayaramu M.

• Ms. Kamala A was awarded PhD degree in Biochemistry from Tumkur University on the thesis entitled “Influence of Plant Growth Regulators (PGR) and elicitors on production of secondary metabolites in Cyperus rotundus L (Purple nutsedge)”, under the guidance of Dr. Chandrkant S Karigar.

• The project proposals sent by Dr. Kamala A, Ms. Usha T, Dr. Kushalatha M and Dr. Suneetha P to college research committee has been accepted and seed money of Rs 20,000/- has been granted to each faculty to carry on the project.

• Lt. Dr. Bhavya Bhanu

 was invited as Resource Person on 17th October 2020 by Malleswaram Ladies Association Academy for Higher Education to deliver a guest lecture on Impact of Mental Illness on students.  received “Mahila Ratna” Award on 10th December 2020 by Exide Life Insurance for contribution towards social service (through NCC) and excelling in academics.

• Ms. Hemalatha M, Dept. of BBA, has cleared NET exam for Assistant Professor on 30th November 2020.

• Ms. Shylaja G. was invited as a judge on virtual celebration of “National Mathematics Day 2020”, by Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College on 22nd December, 2020.

• Prof. Rajeshwari M has participated and presented a paper titled “A Model to Improve the Success Rate of Start- up by Entrepreneur in Development Approach” in the AICTE sponsored Two Days National e-Conference on Social Entrepreneurship: Issues and Challenges organized by the Department of Management Studies, M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bengaluru on 20th and 21st November 2020.

• Dr. Sushama Bavle and Prof. Manjula Shekar published an article titled “Age - A Predictor For Growth of Indian Women Entrepreneurs” in Test Engineering and Management Journal ISSN:0193-4120 Page No. 3836 - 3851: Edition July to December 2020.

• Prof. Lakshmi B N presented a paper on “Numerical Simulation of Boundary Value Problems Using Chebyshev Wavelet Collocation Method” in the International Conference on Recent Trends in Applied and th th Computational Mathematics, held on the 4 and 5 December 2020.

• Prof. Shylaja G presented a paper on “A new finite element method using matlab for poisson’s equation in axisymmetric domain” organized by Bannari Ammani institute of technology in the international virtual conference on bridging innovative trends in mathematics, engineering and technology, held on 18th & 19th December 2020.

• Prof. Vijay Duggappa, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Economics, published a paper on “Digital Banking practice among rural enterprises: A Case Study on enterprises of Tumkur, Karnataka” in Intercontinental Journal of Marketing Research Review ISSN: 2321-0346 Impact factor : 6.613, Volume 8, Issue 10, October 2020.

• Online MOOC courses: 3rd Semester BCZMB (2020-21) students (42) have successfully completed MOOC online courses in the subject of Microbiology. The online courses were offered from WHO (World Health Organisation), SWAYAM and e-PG Patashala. The topics were related to the current situations such as • ‘Clinical management of patients with COVID-19- General considerations’-WHO • ‘Emerging respiratory viruses, including COVID-19: methods for detection, prevention, response and control’.- WHO • ‘COVID- 19 Vaccination Training For Health workers’-WHO • ‘Infection prevention and control (IPC) for COVID-19 Virus’-WHO • ‘Food Nutrition for living healthy’-SWAYAM

• 5th Semester BCZMB students completed the selected topics in ‘Food Technology’ and ‘Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology’ under e-PG Patashala, MOOC

• Agricultural field visit: 5th Semester BCZMB students had undertaken field visits to agricultural farms and nurseries. They utilized the opportunity to interact with farmers and gain knowledge about agricultural practices. They had exciting experiences in visiting the farms near their locality.

• Breast Cancer Awareness Video: A group of 5 Stu- dents- Anushree M, A.U. Chandana, Dhanyatha P., Nikhitha R and Dilsha.D from 3rd semester, BCZMB along with students-B.D Greeshma, Brunda Yadav and Chandini Jha of PBZ, took an initiative to compile and create a video as a part of ‘Celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness’ in the month of October-2020. for PG students held on 04th Nov 2020 conducted by Antibiotic stewardship and prevention of infection in communities, ASPIC Club, Yuvaraja college, Dept. Molecular biology, University of Mysore and secured 1st prize. • Ms.Priyanka.G.M from II B.Sc, CBBT successfully completed course review on “Molecular Genetics” with a score of 60% organized by the Department of Microbiology, Palaniswamy college of Arts, Oct 2020.

• Ms. Usha.S.R, Ms. Lavanya.M & Ms. Sneha.A from II B.Sc., CZBT successfully completed course on “Biomedical Nanotechnology” with a score of 71% organized by the NPTEL, Sep-Oct 2020.

• Ms. Jositta George from III B.Sc., CZBT successfully cleared “Graduate Aptitude test – Biotechnology” organized by the Regional Centre of Biotechnology and got admission for M.Sc in Nehu University, Shillong, Meghalaya.
