Dear Youssef

Autumn 2011 Bus Service Review programme Comments by East Surrey Transport Committee

Please find the comments of East Surrey Transport Committee on the routes in area covered by the autumn 2011 review. In general the routes are very good and we have no manger changes. Our main concern continues to be reliability of route 60 and 466. We also believe changes future residential development warrant and improvement in local routes 404, 434.

We also believe that the performance of existing operators should be taken into consideration when awarding new tenders.

By Route Number

60 This is an important route for our area. It serves the College and it is the only bus that directly serves University (Mayday) Hospital. The basic timetable is very good and it interworks well with route N68. However, we continue to be concerned about its unreliability and the turning of buses in xxxxxx and Coulsdon that never reach Old Coulsdon. After Coulsdon South station on route 60 there is no alternative bus. We would like to see measures that improve its reliability and the southern end of the route protected.

127 We believe that since taking over this route MetroBus has improved it and run it very well and this should be taken into consideration when retendering. This is a good route, especially for school children and provides one of the only direct links to an underground station from our area. If possible we would like to see the route extended to St Georges Hospital especially as some services from Croydon University Hospital are being transferred there. We would also like to see better integration of the timetable with route 463 in the evenings and on Sundays in Woodcote Road Wallington. We would also like to see a stop in xxxxxx near the hospital.

166 This is a good route and was much improved when it was extended to Banstead. The hourly bus extended to Epsom Hospital is very helpful for people who need to get to Epsom and the hospital from our area. We would make no changes to the route or timetable.

404 Epsom Buses and their drivers have run this bus route extremely well; the local community is very grateful to them. This should be taken into consideration when retendering. This is an extremely good and reliable bus route. We would like to see it increase in frequency to two buses per hour, at least one of them serving the Tollers Estate. We would also like the route extended to Caterham Station and a Sunday service.

405 We believe that since taking over this route MetroBus has improved it run very well and this should be taken into consideration when retendering. This is also an extremely good route and reliable route. The only change we would like to see is some later buses from West Croydon to Redhill. We would like to see better integration of the timetable with route 455 in Pampisford Road (this requires alteration to route 455).

412 This is a good route especially after the changes last year to improve the terminal arrangements in xxxxxx. We do not want to see route 412 merged with route 312 and diverted to East Croydon

434 This is also a good route and has been well run by Abellio. We would like to see a Sunday service and consideration to a diversion of 434 from Whyteleafe South to Upper Warlingham station and Warlingham Green. We are also of the view that this would be a suitable route to divert through the Cane Hill hospital site in Coulsdon when the new housing is developed in the near future.

466 This is an important route for our area. It serves Coulsdon College and the Oasis Academy. It is the only bus that directly serves from the south of the borough. The basic timetable is very good. However, we continue to be concerned about its unreliability and the turning of buses in xxxxxx and Old Coulsdon that never reach Caterham‐on‐the‐Hill. After Stoats Nest Road on route 466 there is no alternative bus. We would like to see measures that improve its reliability and the southern end of the route protected.

T32 We would like to see this route merged with route 359 to provide an all day service to Monks Hill estate and link the estate better with Selsdon and the tram at Addington Village.

Other

As most of the routes in the Coulsdon area are up for retendering and the Cane Hill Development in Coulsdon is now likely to happen in the near future. It might be useful to have a look at these routes to see if any resources should be shifted from one route to another.
