3. GEOLOGY AND EXPLORATION 3.1 Physiography: The Atalpur stone quarry is located in the jurisdiction of village l' Atalpur , District Shivpuri of Madhya Pradesh. The proposed quarry La lease area is located in Survey of toposheet no. 54 Hl9 and a bounded between the latitude N 24"54'51.9" to N 24"54',57.6"and a longitude E 77"3O'I7.8" to E 77"3O'23.2'The general elevation of the quarry lease area has elevation from 460 meter to 463 meter above MSL. o The average elevation is about 462 rneter above MSL. The quarry lease area is a barren non forest land of Madhya Pradesh Govt. and covered l' with mainly Basalt rock and partially brownish light brick red murram It and soil. lo Topographicaliy the lease area is gentle sloping flat with surrounding topography is undulating. The general slope of the quarry lease area is in l'I NE direction and drainage is controlled by small gullies joining the seasonal nala located at Northern direction of the lease area. No lr significant important water regime passing near the quarry area. The D seasonal nala are only active in the monsoon. o 3.2 Regional Geology: t Geologically is part of craton and t rock formations range from Archaean to recent age. Bundelkhand Gneissic Complex (BGC) of Archaean to Paleo Proterozoic age are oldest t rock group comprising of granite gneiss, migmatites and granitoids with t enclaves of still older rocks like phyllite, schist amphibolite etc. The t Vindhyan Supergroup which include Kaimur, Rewa and Bhander group of rock formation unconformably overlies the BGC. Isolated small t patches of Lameta group also occur in the district. Deccan Trap basalt of t cretaceous to Paleocene age occupies the plateau in southern part of the district. Vindhyan Supergroup and Deccan Trap are often capped by t laterite and alluvium of quaternary age. The information and geological data collected by the L RQP and his geological team at lease a-rea, revels that the area is covered I by O.50 to 1.5 m thick soil and lateritic soil. Basalt is present in throughout lease area. Basalt is well exposed in Nala cutting up to a t depth of 4-5 meter. It is fine to medium grand hard and compact in rD nature The basalt is also recorded up to a depth of 35-40 m in dug wells D in the nearby area.

L Thus it is evident that the basalt is present throughout the lease rt area in from of horizontally thickly bedded. TWo sets of vertical joints are prominent.
