35 years of Research Experience in various fields of Chemistry, Chemical Science & Technology out of which 26 years in NALCO.

10. Experience in NALCO :

(i) I was responsible for selection, procurement, installation and commissioning for all the Quality Control & R&D laboratory equipment of the Company for both Mines & Refinery and Smelter & Power Complex Divisions as per the specification furnished by Alumina Pechiney, France in close collaboration with EIL, New Delhi.

(ii) Conceptualized, initiated & implemented R&D functions of the Company at the Corporate level from the very beginning in close coordination with the Company’s Top Management, Board of Directors, International Technology Suppliers in the field of Bauxite-Alumina-Aluminium & Allied Products, National R&D Institutions, Government Organizations, Statutory Bodies, Academic Institutions, Aluminium Pechiney-France and others.

(iii) Responsible for setting up of R&D Centers in the Company both at M&R, Damanjodi and S&P, Angul and obtaining their recognitions from DSIR. Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India including the Corporate R&D set up.

(iv) Responsible for Process & Product Development, Diversification for Production of Value Added Items, Setting up New Downstream Plants from Concept to Commissioning, Waste Utilization, Energy Conservation, Selection of New Technology, Technology Development, Technology Operation, Technology Absorption, Assimilation & Upgradation and Marketing of Technology have been the key areas of activities.

(v) Undertaking Collaborative R&D Projects (Joint Research Projects) with National & International R&D/Industrial Organizations both in the Laboratory & Pilot Plant Scales have been the principal focus areas of activities. 2 Collaborations with large number of CSIR laboratories; IIT, Kharagpur and many Industrial Houses have culminated in development of scores of new process & products which have been patented to the best advantage of NALCO. Collaborations with VAMI, St.Petersburg; TPE, GIREDMET, MISA, Moscow, Russia and NLM/JFEST, Japan have yielded noteworthy results in many areas of Scientific & Technological Collaborations.

(vi) The most Important and Noteworthy Achievement have been the Development of Detergent Grade Zeolite-A Process Technology both in the Laboratory & Pilot Plant Scales in collaboration with CSMCRI, Bhavnagar, Gujarat and its Successful Commercialization to a 10,000 TPA Zeolite-A Plant at NALCO’s Alumina Refinery, Damanjodi at an investment of Rs.30 Crores. Zeolite-A Plant was set up directly in the loop of NALCO’s Alumina Refinery which is considered as the only plant of its kind in the world using Sodium Aluminate Liquor as the main feed stock material. NALCO’s Zeolite-A Plant is considered as my brain child for which I have been bestowed with many Awards & Recognitions both Nationally & Internationally. The Process has been patented in France, Germany, Australia, China, Russia including India. Marketing of Zeolite-A Technology both in the country and abroad has been taken up.

(vii) Utilization of Red Mud, Fly Ash & Spent Pot Lining Materials, the waste products generated by the Company, has been the prime area of concern. Large number of value added products has been developed out of the same and products were exhibited in National Level Exhibitions. A good number of entrepreneurs have shown interest for purchase of the Technology for Commercialization.

(viii) Full-fledged Technological Endeavors for Setting up of a Commercial Scale Gallium Plant (7TPA , 5N Grade, 99.999% Purity) in NALCO, Damanjodi using Spent Liquor of Alumina Refinery process stream as the Principal Raw Material was undertaken by by the Company which was considered as a major milestone of R&D activities in the country. . Overseas technological collaborations with NLM/JFEST, Japan had yielded successful results. I was working in this project as the Principal Coordinator from NALCO and was responsible for realization of the project. In this connection, I have visited USA, Russia & Japan and have seen & worked in Gallium Plants in those countries and have gathered vast Scientific & Technological knowledge on the subject. A Techno-Economic Feasibility Report (TEFR) & a Detailed Project Report (DPR) was prepared for the purpose. Repeated Laboratory Scale & Pilot Scale Trials were conducted both at NALCO & M/s NLM, Japan and Project Feasibility was established.

I have instituted the following awards/undertaken philanthropic activities in various Professional Organizations of Odisha. They are:

(a) Srimati Parbati Mishra Memorial Award :[Through Orissa Chemical Society Since 2005]

The Award is presented annually from the year 2005 by the Orissa Chemical Society to the “Best Lady Post Graduate in Chemistry of Odisha”. The award carries a Certificate and Cash Prize of Rs 1000/- given from the interest of donation amount of Rs 30,000/- contributed by me to the Orissa Chemical Society for the purpose. The award was instituted in loving memory of my beloved mother Late Smt. Parbati Mishra.

(b) Srimati Subhadra Devi Memorial Award: [Through Orissa Chemical Society Since 2005]

The award is presented annually from the year 2005 by the Orissa Chemical Society to the “Best +2 Science Student of Orissa” based on the result of Orissa + 2 Council for that year. The Award carries a Certificate and Cash Prize of Rs 1000/- given from the interest of donation amount of Rs 30,000/- contributed by me to the Orissa Chemical Society for the purpose. The award was instituted in loving memory of my beloved grand mother Late Smt. Subhadra Devi.

The Name of the Award was subsequently changed to “Subhadra Devi Memorial Award for Securing Highest Position in Odisha in the GATE Examination from among the Chemistry M.Sc Students of the State.” The Revised award was presented by the Orissa Chemical Society from the year 2013.

The Award is presented annually from the year 2008 by the Ravenshaw University Chemistry Alumni Association, Cuttack to the “Best Post Graduate in Chemistry of Ravenshaw University” based on the final result of M.Sc (Chemistry) for that year. The award carries a Certificate and Cash Prize of Rs 1000/- given from the interest of donation amount of Rs 25,000/- contributed by me to the Ravenshaw University Chemistry Alumni Association, Cuttack for the purpose.

(e) Srimati Parbati Mishra Memorial Award: [Through Ravenshaw University Chemistry Alumni Association] since 2008.

The Award is presented annually from the year 2008 by the Ravenshaw University Chemistry Alumni Association, Cuttack to the “Best Honors Graduate in Chemistry of Ravenshaw University” based on the final result of B.Sc (Honors) in Chemistry for that year. The award carries a Certificate and Cash Prize of Rs 1000/- given from the interest of donation amount of Rs 25,000/- contributed by me to the Ravenshaw University Chemistry Alumni Association, Cuttack for the purpose. 12

The Award is presented annually from the year 2010 based on a Donation of Rs 20,000/- made by me to the Management of the School dated 21.6.2009.

(h) Smt. Parbati Mishra Memorial Award for the Best Student of Ramakrishnapur High School, Via. Rameswar, Dist. Cuttack in the Annual High School Certificate Examination of Board of Secondary Education, Odisha. [Through Ramakrushnapur High School, Dist. Cuttack] since 2010

The Award is presented annually from the year 2010 based on a Donation of Rs 25,000/- made by me to the Management of the School dated 25.6.2009.

The Award is presented annually from the year 2010 on the World Environment Day to the Best Environmentalist of the State for his significant contribution to Environmental Science & Technology, Conservation of Ecology & Environment etc. I have instituted this award in loving memory of my departed mother Smt. Parbati Mishra by donating Rs 50,000/- to the Corpus Fund of Orissa Environmental Society, Bhubaneswar. Based on the interest proceeds of the amount, the Award is presented annually.

(j) Institution of “Prof. Basudev Kar Memorial Best Popular Children’s Science Writer Award”: [Through Bigyan Prachar Samiti, Cuttack] since August, 2016.

The award is presented annually from the year 2016 during the Foundation Day of Bigyan Prachar Samiti, Cuttack on 7th August every year to one of the Best Popular Children’s Science Writer of the State. I have instituted this award in loving memory of Prof. Basudev Kar, Former Principal, SCB Medical College, Cuttack & Former President of Odisha Bigyan Academy, Bhubaneswar by donating Rs. 20,000/- to the Corpus Fund of Odisha Bigyan Prachar Samiti, Cuttack.
