Southwest Independent School District ECR-WSS Non-Profit Org. Office of Community Education RESIDENTIAL U.S. Postage Paid 11914 Lane Bldg. 502 Rm. 12 CUSTOMER Von Ormy, Tx , TX 78252-2647 Permit #3 A message from our Superintendent... What a great start to this 2018-2019 school year it has been for Southwest ISD! Thank you to all who voted for 2018 Bond. Your support will help to bring a natatorium that will have a major impact on our district and our entire community. The bond will support renovations to Southwest High School and Scobee Middle School, roof and HVAC replacement at four of our campuses, and an all weather track at our middle school campuses. Thank you for the support as we prepare for the future. Southwest launched the grand opening of the new CAST STEM program this school year. This program will be providing unique opportunities for our students in science and technology right here within our district. The SWISD Center for Applied Science and Technology (CAST) is the second school in San Antonio, and it is located within our Southwest Legacy High School campus. In partnership with Palo Alto College, CAST STEM is serving about 150 students in it’s first year and will offer pathways in advanced manufacturing, engineering, energy and power, and global logistics. College coursework is embedded within the high school program and is supported by strong industry partnerships. Toyota, CPS Energy, Holt Cat, Zachry Group and other partners will be offering opportunities to the students of CAST STEM to design and build by working directly with heavy machinery, robotics, and other advanced technology. I’m also very proud to share with you the new SWISD Leadership Definition, which is our Commitment to Growth, Commitment to Service, and Commitment to Results. Our district has been working with the Holdsworth Program for the past year, and a big focus of that work was creating this leadership definition for our organization. One very important aspect that has kept SWISD on the forefront of success is our great Community Education Program. In this Community Brochure, you will find more than a few opportunities to engage Lloyd Verstuyft, Ed.D. in various learning scenarios. I encourage any and all who may want to learn a new language, explore parenting classes, take advantage of afterschool programs, enroll in computer classes, earn your high Superintendent of Schools school diploma, learn about the financial aid process for college, etc., to sign up. We have room for everyone, and we hope our community will engage in our fantastic Community Education programs. Southwest Independent At SWISD, we are always striving for progression. With the amazing work that our staff, School District students, parents and community are doing everyday, I look forward to seeing what the future holds for all of us. We are Southwest!
