1. Introduction

Saferworld is an independent non-governmental organisation that works to prevent and reduce violent conflict and build safer lives. Saferworld works with civil society, governments and international organisations to encourage and support effective policies and practices through advocacy, research and policy development, and through supporting the development of local capacities and structures. Saferworld has been working in Nepal since 2009 on governance, public security and peacebuilding. With partners we engage with civil society and marginalised groups including women and young people to push the government to adopt policies and approaches that promote peace and gender equality.

2. Objectives of the consultancy

Saferworld seeks to recruit a photographer on a short-term basis to capture a series of photographs that bring to life Saferworld’s work with marginalised communities in Province No. 2, Nepal. These photographs will document the context and reality of the location, the stories of individuals working to create change and those impacted by change.

The consultancy will be divided into two informal parts; the first of which focuses on the documentation of the project, location and context. The second part will allow for a more creative approach to capturing people’s stories (for example through a portrait series). This will be discussed beforehand with the Saferworld team. Please feel free to send through ideas for this creative project as part of your proposal.

As part of this project, Saferworld’s communications team and Nepal team will be leading on collecting interviews with community members. The consultant will work in coordination with Saferworld to visually document the communities’ perspectives.
