As you spend time in our community for the next few days connecting with colleagues, mentors and experts in your field, I encourage you to take full advantage of everything our region has to offer. We, in Allegheny County, are very proud to work with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to make investments in our county that benefit those who call this region home. That is due to the technical capacity that our staff has and continues to develop as a result of its participation in NACCED. In the past 30 years, our region has changed from one that struggled with decline and other challenges to one where we are managing growth. In embracing the new opportunities that exist here, we are also working proactively to ensure that all communities have the same chance for success – an effort that is heavily reliant upon Allegheny County Economic Development and its staff. We are very lucky to have this staff and are proud to share them with you as part of the NACCED conference. Allegheny County offers both a taste of the city through downtown Pittsburgh and its unique neighborhoods, as well as more rural areas boasting beautiful landscapes and nature. This region has a well-known cultural district, various museums, sports teams, parks, and historical sites. I hope that you take the time to get to know and experience just a bit of what our region has to offer, and that your time here will lead you to come back to visit again and again. Best wishes for a productive Educational Conference and Training! Sincerely, Rich Fitzgerald CONFERENCE HOST Allegheny County, Pennsylvania Allegheny County serves as host for NACCED’s 41st Annual Conference. Allegheny County offers a unique quality of life. Allegheny County purchased the site in 1986, 30 years after the blast furnace ceased operation. Since then, Allegheny County has worked with the five communities surrounding the property to redevelop the nearly 170-acre site. Development plans center on a mixed-use development and designation as a national park in conjunction with the Homestead Works National Historic Site. The project will bring new life to a part of Allegheny County that was once a thriving retail and manufacturing community and preserve an important piece of the region’s industrial history. 12:15 pm – 1:45 pm Lunch (on your own) 41 st Annual Conference and Training | #NACCED16 8 2016 CONFERENCE PROGRAM Monday, September 12 1:45 pm – 3:15 pm CONCURRENT SESSIONS TECHNICAL TRACK: Building on HUD HEROS POLICY/MANAGERIAL TRACK: Local Fair Housing Experiences | Marquis A & B Assessment Activities | City Center A HUD’s Environmental Review Online System (HEROS) Under HUD’s AFFH Regulations HUD grantees that complete was established to develop, document and manage the a Consolidated Plan for HUD’s Community Planning and environmental review process.
