World market leader Trotec defines R&D priority and requires specialists at 4 locations

Marchtrenk, March XY, 2018 | In the record-breaking time of no more than 20 years, Trotec Laser GmbH has succeeded in growing from start-up to world market leader in laser machines for cutting, marking and engraving: And now the laser specialists are getting ready for further rapid growth with an additional R&D focus. From currently more than € 130 million of turnover, Trotec wants to pass the € 200 million mark by 2020, and to this end, it is looking for highly trained professionals in the areas of mechatronics, design, software.

Dr. Andreas Penz, spokesman of the management of Trotec Laser GmbH, explains the R&D focus: “The development at Trotec is roughly divided into the areas of mechatronics, design and software, and we operate 4 development sites worldwide: In Upper Austria – Headquarters –, in China, in Germany, and in Poland.” Especially the Poland location is interesting for the laser specialists, as Penz says: “We are planning to build a team of developers in Poland over the course of this year. We have selected the Warsaw location, on the one hand because we already have a location there, with a very technical laser team (sales and service). On the other hand, Warsaw has several technical universities and thus offers sufficient numbers of well-trained specialists. In addition, the team in Poland will subsequently establish a local network of further development partners”, explains Penz.

At the development sites in Austria / HQ, China and Germany, in 2018 likewise new staff are being sought, he reports. This massive increase in staffing is due to the fact that Trotec is not only going to expand its product portfolio in existing market segments, but also to venture into new market segments. Here, each market segment has slightly different requirements, with corresponding adaptation of the systems. Penz explains: “With the additional employees, we

will not only shorten the time-to-market for new products, but will also be able to process significantly more projects in parallel than we could before.”

Trotec has great development depth, since everything from mechanics through electronics to firmware and user software is developed in-house, as Penz says. “This allows us to better tailor our products to customers’ needs, and to offer completely new, innovative solutions to customer needs. The laser field is extremely dynamic, and today laser applications can be found in all major areas of life, such as medical technology – for example, we manufacture stents with our laser devices. Or in the field of research, where laser applications are simply indispensable, for example in the development of the Mars Rover. Trotec laser technology plays an important role in industry and trade as well. The pivotal question is: Why do we make lasers? Answer: We make our customers successful, and this sustainable strategy allows us to grow overproportionately”, explains Penz.

The explicit goal for Trotec’s future is: To become the world’s number one in the laser segment, and the market leader in the defined core markets.
