[email protected] Ashby Canal Update OCTOBER 2013 Volunteers have been out in force on the restored length of canal at Moira. At the end of September, volunteers from the national organisation, the Waterways Inside this issue: Recovery Group supported by local volunteers spent a weekend at Moira carrying out essential maintenance. The Ashby Canal Trust provided 6 tons of sand and 40 bags pf cement. This was to be mixed and filled into sandbags to provide bank Ashby Canal Update 1 protection. The gang worked hard all Saturday, ending up with all 6 tons of sand and 32 bags of cement being used in 350 sandbags, all being taken down the canal to repair eroded canal banks. On Sunday they all set to to clear the banks between the Furnace and the lock, where a 'hedge' up to 10ft high had appeared , seemingly Measham’s Tower Of 1 overnight. No sign of it now though!.
