Funding Injection for Palliative Care

There are few professions more impactful than palliative care. In particular, I consistently hear of the amazing standard of care provided by our local palliative care staff.

That is why I am delighted that St George and Sutherland Shire patients, families and carers will soon benefit from refurbishments to palliative care facilities thanks to a $380,000 funding injection from the NSW Government.

St George Hospital will benefit from an additional eight sofa beds, which will increase support and comfort to family members of patients receiving end of life care.

Additionally, refurbishments at Calvary Health Care Kogarah will improve the family tea room by creating a contemporary space, and Sutherland Hospital will receive funding in 2022 to refurbish single and family accommodation rooms.

These facilities are among 34 palliative care facilities to be refurbished over the next two years as part of a $5.5 million investment in end of life care across NSW.

The latest round of funding follows the success of $4.5 million allocated for refurbishments in 2019-20 and 2020-21. Both funding rounds were a part of a $45 million enhancement for palliative care facilities announced in the 2019-20 NSW Budget.
