Hot Scott’s pick at WGIV. Some requests at WQXI-Atlanta. The #6 request for Bob Reich- WEKR-Fayetteville, Tenn. I ’M SO PROUD - Impressions (ABC) Ballad sound by the group for a needed change of pace. May take somewhat longer to establish than their last two, but could be even bigger than their last one. Dick Starr-WFUN likes it. KISS ME SAILOR - Diane Renay (Twentieth Fox) Strong follow-up to her present smash, which is still racking up sales and requests. I ’LL FIND YOU - Valerie & Nick (Glover) Ron Bowen-WYDE-Birmingham gets credit for finding this goodie, which is gathering early sales momentum in his market. THAT’S THE WAY BOYS ARE - Lesley Gore (Mercury) She hasn’t missed yet, and it’s a safe bet this one like her others will be top twenty. Good recordl IF YOU CAN'T SAY SOMETHING NICE - David Box (joed) Just short of hitting page one. If there is one side I can tip you on that is on the brink of becoming a hit, then this one gets the touch of the baton. Activity in Alabama, Tennessee, Texas, Louisiana and North Carolina. LONELY AVENUE - Crickets (Liberty) Number one in Amarillo, Texas flashes Tom Thacker- KIXZ. Tom feels this one will spread for the group. (They usually sell well in his area of Texas and New Mexico.) VANISHING POINT - Marketts (WB) Great second shot by this group. Not a weak record in the least. Could be another top twenty hit for them. LOVE IS MAGIC - Kirby St. Romain (inette) Could be! Sounds a lot like Dick and Dee Dee. Worth experimenting with....try it and pass along the word. SHA LA LA/HIS LIPS GET IN THE WAY - Shirelles (Scepter) Split play with no definite tread showing up one way or the other. WATCH OVER HER - Wade Flemons (Vj) Still has a long way to go to prove itself as a seller, but it jumps from #26 to #10 for Ron Fuller-WLAY-Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Requests at WFOM-Marietta. Confirms reports of earlier activity in Tennesse and Alabama. Hard to figure this one out. LET THEM TALK - Mitty Collier (Chess) Getting hotter. Breaking very big in Georgia and Alabama. #1 for Burke Johnson-WAOK-Atlanta. THE REATT.E FLYING SAUCER - Ed Solomon (Diamond) The biggest for Dean Griffith-WPGC- Washington and Bob Baker-WNOX-Knoxville. THAT'S WHEN IT HURTS - Ben E King (Atco) Action in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee. You should be playing this one. BLUE DIAMOND - Gene Summers (Capri) #3 at KILT-Houston. Bob White says it has knocked two Beatle records out of the top ten and will be #1 by next week. WISH SOMEONE WOULD CARE - Irma Thomas (imperial) Hit in Jacksonville, Mobile and New Orleans. SHANGRI LA - Robert Maxwell (Decca) Big West Coast record that gets its first pick in these parts by Dean Griffith-WPGC. I strongly suggest it as top fare for balanced programming. Give it time, and it’ll make it in Dixie too. AIN'T NOTHING YOU CAN DO- Bobby Bland (Duke) This is shaping up to be his best seller in over a year. And only lack of pop exposure is keeping it from becoming a giant. Top twenty seller in Atlanta reports Pat Hughes-WQXI. BABY BABY BABY - Bobby Byrd & Anna King (Smash) Only the Tams newie was picked more than this one. Exciting side that should not be overlooked. I CAN'T STAND IT - Soul Sisters (Sue) It's been a top ten record in Atlanta since the first of the year, and it's now breaking in several other areas. Both pop and R & B. I'M ON FIRE - Jerry Lee Lewis (Smash) Being well received. Deserves the best future of any release he's had in several years. HOOCHIE COOCHIE MAN - Dion (Columbia) Lost in the Beatle shuffle. May make a comeback. Uncertain just now. TET.T. IT TO THE MOUNTAIN - Peter Paul & Mary (WB) Off to a slow start. #24 at WFUN-Miami. It's a good side and has a good chance of eventually breaking through. CASTLES IN THE SAND - Stevie Wonder (Tamla) I keep telling you...it’s a hit if you play it. Tailored for the Southern audience, you're passing up a good bet if you miss it. STAND BY ME - Cassius Clay (Columbia) Off and running. Looks like a top chart item that is getting heavy play and selling fairly well at the start. *

ALBUM PROGRAMMING

ALLAN IN WONDERLAND - Allan Sherman (WB) Packed with fun. Hits the mark his current single misses. BEST: "Skin". (But, listen carefully to the lyric, before you air it.) GOOD; "Green Stamps." THUNDER ROAD - Super Stocks (Capitol) Another great car album from the label that is far in front with this type of product. BEST: "Draggin’ Deuce." GOOD: "Thunder Road." FAIR: "Ballad Of Bonneville." TRINI LOPEZ ON THE MOVE (Reprise) Maintains the same mood of his first two albums. It is equal to them. One or two cuts sound about as good as "If I Had A Hammer." Listen to this then. BEST: "Bye Bye Love." GOOD: "What Have I Got Of My Own." AIN’T THAT GOOD NEWS - Sam Cooke (RCA) His current single is a strong adult record seller. You can find something hot in this one to play for his many younger fans. BEST: "Good Times". GOOD: "A Change Is Gonna Come."
