I am the mother of Mymoena Davids, a 10th grade student attending La Guardia High School and Eric Davids, a Kindergarten student attending P.S. 106-The Parkchester School in the Bronx. On Friday morning, I attended the P.S. 106X Parent Association election meeting. Marian Martinez, the District 11 District Family Advocate, administered the elections. I first met Ms. Martinez six years ago when I was Co-President of P.S. 160X-The Walt Disney School. At that time, I filed a complaint against Ms. Martinez for her refusal to help the parents secure our Title 1 funds from the Principal. After filing my complaint, we finally received the Title 1 funds. (Unfortunately, the funds the principal never distributed in previous years were not recouped because they were already spent by her.) At Friday's meeting, I was nominated by a parent as a candidate for President of the Parent Association (PA). I spoke after another parent, who had nominated herself. During my turn to address the parent members, I began speaking about my experience as a former PA Co-President and School Leadership Team member six years ago. Continuing with my experience and background as an active parent, I began speaking about my experience for the past few years as a full-time, unpaid volunteer founder and President of the New York City Parents Union. -

Ralf VonSosen, the head of marketing for sales solutions for the online professional net- working company LinkedIn, thinks a lot about using social media, particularly for communicating with sales targets. VonSosen calls this "social selling" — utilizing the relationships, connections and in- sights available in social channels to facilitate a better experience in both buying and selling. S"It's really utilizing all this fantastic data that's out there that helps us gain visibility to the connections and relationships we have," says VonSosen. "We can take that data and combine it with the branding and infor- mation that we as professionals are sharing, and create a more meaningful experience and conversation." Done right, social selling "moves our contact from a traditional cold call to either a warm introduction or at least a warm conversation," he says. In a conversation with MIT Sloan Management Review's Robert Berkman, VonSosen talked about free ways to build a personal online brand and about how LinkedIn's Sales Navigator product is being used by both large and small companies. -

But they still have not spoken to you or anyone in your company. Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Christopher Kuberiet described the June 25 attack on Divyendu Sinha as a "wilding spree for no apparent purpose" during a hearing in September that led to the five teens being charged as adults, according to a report in the Star-Ledger. The Star-Ledger obtained audio recordings of four of five closed family court hearings. Click here to listen. Julian Daley, 16, Christian Tinli, who turned 18 in September, Cash Johnson, 17, Christopher Conway, 17, and Steven Contreras, 17, are accused of the attack on Sinha as he walked with his family in his Old Bridge neighborhood. Sinha, 49, worked at CSI as an assistant professor in the computer science department from 1990 to 1999. Kuberiet said authorities obtained time-stamped messages between the alleged assailants sent within an hour of the fatal attack, saying how much they enjoyed the assault, and discussing another similar attack the next day, the Star-Ledger reported. -

Still, securing that major lawsuit or big client is an exciting opportunity, and more importantly, a financial imperative for many firms.
