uncleKEVIN CURRENT POSITION: NATIONAL PERSONIFICATION sam OF THE U.S. FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SINCE 1812

Great to have you with us on this long holiday weekend. Where have you been? Laying low, yo. Last year sucked. You cats were choosing sides and finger pointing like the traffic manager who ran a Coke and Pepsi spot back to back. I wasn’t getting in the middle of that...everybody was ready to beat everybody else up and I thought my Country was about to be Red, White, Black and Blue. Glad everybody’s chilling out and smiling on your brother, everybody get together gotta love one another, right now...again. Plus, I’m pretty old and high risk, so I shacked up at the VFW Hall during the “Pandy”.

Do you have favorite radio stations? Dude, I’ve been around since the early 1800’s. I remember when the Marconi’s had that goofy kid Gugie. I told him to connect some wires and I have this idea for Radio Free Europe. I also used to dig Air America. But I can’t find it. Maybe I need batteries in my boombox. This weekend I’ve been streaming American Patriotic Music on my iHeartRadio app thingy.

Anything heavy on your mind? Really? Where do you wanna start. How about the weather. I fish a lot with Al Gore and he’s been all over this for a good American minute. But Lordy, I had an Audacy gig this weekend at a ball game…(you know, waving a folks and posing with the sweaty kids…) in Phoenix. It was 117 and trust me this wool suit it friggin’ hot……hey, look there’s Drew Bland….what?

You’ve been around through all the wars, the turmoil and ups and downs. Does anything surprised you anymore? Yes. No one has sued Smokey over the poster…my poster! Check em out. A/B them. Me/Him…side by side. He’s wearing a hat, pointing a finger…maybe it’s a claw but you get my point, and doing the “Only You”….bit. MY BIT. Friggin’ bears. Can’t trust ‘em. And Lee Greenwood’s accent. We gig together a lot and he should be a hillbilly but he interviews like Michael Buble. I don’t get it.

Is Uncle Sam an Air Name? Yes, I’m Sam Wilson from Troy, New York. A grocer, butcher by trade. I delivered cases of meat to the soldiers during The War of 1812 and the cases were marked U.S. The dudes thought it was short for Uncle Sam ..ya, know, Wilson…me. And they started calling me that. No, really. No…really really. it. I got the hat from Leon Russell’s Dad and the beard idea from John Marks great, great grandpa.

If you could give America some advice, what would it be? Stop shooting each other. That’s just stupid. Play more Springsteen. Love thy neighbor. When you see someone in uniform, stop and thank them. Play more cross-over hits. Make a difference. Volunteer. Give peace a chance. Update my suit. Be smart rent a cart. Eat less red meat. Gotta run, I have a telethon gig with Elvis Duran. The grainy, black and white amateur video is blowing up on the ‘ol WWW! And why is it so viral and popular? Probably a salt-shaker of reasons. First, it’s a reminder that fashion is real, fleeting and always era-centric. This DC area wedding band called “Sixpence” (no, not ‘The Richers) have captured the look immortalized in “Anchorman”. Plus, the dudes have clearly practiced their lively-hood. The cover of the Queen iconic masterpiece is pretty spot-on. And they deserve some accolades for choosing the tunes in the first place. This was 1976…right after the UK release of the single and 16 years before the track was cemented by the film “Wayne’s World”! Wanna time-trip? Click above. mmi-intelevision 7.5.21

Check out these videos hand-picked by our staff!

JUSTIN WELLINGTON FT. SMALL JAM - “IKO IKO” Sugar Boy and The Cane Cutters, Dixie cups, and Dr. John have all had a spin at the Cajun classic, “Iko Iko”. Now it’s Justin Welligton’s turn. Don’t know him?… then get your flip flops on and get hip because the dude has had a string of “Island Hits” and owns his patch of Earth in the Caribbean, Southeast Asia and The South Pacific. Not a bad gig. The MMI radar thinga-ma-doddle picked up on some pings off of SiriusXM’s Venus and Hits1. Oh, come on, it’s Summer! Be a part and click here:

ED SHEERAN - “BAD HABITS” Looks like Ed’s back and he picked up some “Bad Habits” along the way. The fang-filled video will take a bite out of your night and is already broken the speed limit for immediate Airplay! If you want something that you can really sink your teeth into, click here:

DON MCCLEAN FT. HOME FREE - “AMERICAN PIE” MMI Holiday Memory: 1971 brought the world one of the most endearing and enduring hits of all time with “American Pie”. The 4-week number one smash launched everything to conspiracy theories (about hidden coded messages) to speaking engagements from “experts” explaining the epic 8 minute and 42 second masterpiece. 50 years later Don McClean joins up with acapella group Home Free for another spin on the timeless classic. If you think you’d like a new slice of “American Pie”, grab a platter and click here:

VASSY X BONKA - “CHASE” What happens when you mix Columbia’s (the Country not the label) Bonka’s signature “Tropipop” (yes, a thing) with Australia’s Producer/Singer/ Vassy? You have a global hit and a “Chase” on your turntable. This vibey collaboration started pinging on the MMI sonar all over the dance charts and then sprouted some roots at Top40. Sounds like Summer to us…..click here:

DUA LIPA - “LOVE AGAIN” Fashion Alert: If you haven’t visited the new Nashville recently, Dua has nailed the current look. There’s a massive migration from New York, LA and other music Meccas to Music City and (besides traffic) the town has taken on an artistic melting pot of eclectic musical and other contemporary styles. Not saying that Nashville has giant floating eggs, invisible bulls and galloping horses adorned with Christmas lights, but just possibly. Anywho, Dua Lipa delivers “Love Again” with all the fanfare and fervor as the last 4 number one smashes. Saddle up and click here: methodology UNDERSTANDING EACH OF THE 6 KEY COMPONENTS

CHARTS/POWERS: 1 AIRPLAY is calculated by Trailing 14 Days of radio airplay on the Key Influencer radio stations – Top 157 radio stations by Average Quarter Hour. Charts are weighted using currently assigned points in Mediabase…100% point value for Morning Drive, 90% for Afternoon Drive, 80% for Mid-days, 70% for nights, 50% for Overnights.

2 RETENTION is calculated by listener Tune-In and Tune-Out using trailing 6 weeks, weighting the most recent week double, and the five weeks prior equally.

3 NATIONAL CALLOUT contemplates more than 1,000 respondents weekly in four regions geographically equivalent over the trailing 14 days of calls.

4 STREAMING, AUDIO contemplates trailing 14 days of all streaming. Songs with insufficient data are designated with an “x”. These songs do not affect the Total Performance Score in any way.

5 STREAMING, VIDEO contemplates trailing 14 days of all streaming. Songs with insufficient data are designated with an “x”. These songs do not affect the Total Performance Score in any way.

6 SALES is base on 14 days trailing results. Songs with insufficient data are designated as PENDING. Pending songs do not affect Total Performance Score in any way.

HOT ZONE / DEVELOPING All five components listed above are contemplated. Songs moving up and increasing significantly in TWO or more categories are designated in the Hot Zone. Other new releases are designated as Developing. RECURRENTS Recurrents are a simple calculation of songs that have trended downward and no longer qualify for Current status. Trailing 14 days are contemplated, along with 6 weeks of Retention Data, and are computed on a 50/50 level of importance. ACTION Songs that are testing either in Callout or in Retention significantly higher than current Airplay rank. These songs are considered UNDEREXPOSED and deserving generally of greater airplay. STREAMING AUDIO, VIDEO AND SALES Streaming Audio and Video, and Sales, are based on trailing 14 days data. All major streaming services are used wherever possible, along with sales.
