A still competitive golfer, Scott, in the summer of 2006, qualified for sec- tionals for the U.S. Open. He placed among the top 20 in half of his collegiate events, includ- ing two runner-up finishes in 1993 and 1994 Columbia Lakes Invitation- al. Scott qualified for four USGA Championships during his career. He made it to match play at the United States Amateur Public Links Cham- pionships in 1994, 1995 and 1996. He also qualified for the 1996 United States Amateur in Oregon. In 1994, he was the co-medalist at the pres- tigious North and South Amateur and made it to the quarterfinals the following year. A native of Pinehurst, N.C., Scott won his first golf tournament - the Scotch Meadows Junior Invitational - when he was eight years old. By the age of 10, he was playing in his first national level tournament - The Donald Ross Memorial Championship. During his high school career, Scott won the North Carolina State High School championship while playing for Union Pines H.S. in Cam- eron, N.C. His winning score of 71-67=138 (six under) was five shots bet- ter than the second-place finish and proved to be the lowest score in 20 years. At the completion of his senior season, he was named the North Carolina High School Golfer of the Year. In February of 2005, Scott was selected as a member of the inaugu- ral five-person class for the Union Pines H.S. Athletic Hall of Fame. Scott is a member of the Golf Coaches Association of America. In the fall of 2008, he was named to the GCAA’s Coaches Congress. The Congress membership assists the GCAA national office in surveying members of their respective conferences regarding matters deemed of national importance as well as keeping represented coaches informed. Scott is also in his third year as a voting member of the GolfWorld/ GCAA Coaches Poll. He has served as the South Central Region commit- tee chairman. The committee is responsible for nominations and voting for All-Region and All-America players and coaches.

With mild winters, Houston is a near-perfect location to start Championships the spring season of college golf. Led by Gaston De La Torre’s individual performance, New Mexico State shot a sec- Te a m Ch a m p i o n s 2001 Kansas ond-round 279 (-9) to climb into contention heading into the final day of the 2011 Rice 2002 Tennessee Intercollegiate. The Aggies’ final-round 283 (-5) was the best team performance of the day 2003 Northwestern and helped propel NMSU to a three-stroke win. 2004 Texas-San Antonio De La Torre fired a second-round 67 and with momentum from the first day, came 2005 North Texas back to card a final-round 68 to win the individual title by three strokes with a 207 (-9). De 2006 Santa Clara La Torre’s three-round score set a new tournament record. Only two rounds were completed as 2009 Ji Hwan Park 70-68-72–210 (-6) rain cancelled the second round. North Texas (299-285-584) won the weather-shortened San Francisco event by one stroke over Memphis (300-285–585). UNT’s Anthony Broussard captured first 2010 Christopher Brown 74-73-69–216 (E) Rice place at -3 (71-70–141). 2011 Gaston De La Torre 72-67-68–207 (-9) The 2006 tournament moved to Willowisp Country Club and the team title was New Mexico State claimed by Santa Clara. Colorado State’s Derek Whiting won a four-way playoff on the third hole to capture individual honors. ^ Individual championship won in a playoff. Sam Houston State captured the 2007 tournament title, outpacing Southland Con- ference rival Southeastern Louisiana which finished five strokes back. Playing as an indi- vidual, SLU’s Aaron O’Callaghan shot a final round 69 to finish with a 217 to force a playoff with College of Charleston’s Harrison Moore. Moore sank a 20-foot birdie putt in the play- off but O’Callaghan countered by sinking a 12-foot eagle putt to clinch the title. Louisiana Tech’s Amrith de Soysa shot an even-par 72 Tuesday to finish with a one- over-par score of 217 to capture individual medalist honors in 2008. Baylor won the 2008 team title by two strokes over UC Davis. Led by Jeff Gerlich’s final-round 70, the Bears shot a 297 for the final round to finish with an 878 team score to capture the championship. In 2009, Patrick Kucich’s two-under par 70 led Pacific to an even par 288 team score during the final round as the Tigers outpaced the host Owls to win the th9 Annual Rice Intercollegiate. Pacific shot a three-round score of 874 (296-290-288). Rice, which was tied for fifth after two rounds, failed to make up any ground on the Tigers also finishing with an even- par 288 team score for the third round. The Owls carded an 878 (296-294-288) for the tournament played at Westwood Golf Club. San Francisco’s Ji Hwan Park shot even par for the final round and finished with a three-round score of 210 (-6) to win the team title by three strokes over Rice’s Christopher Brown. Brown shot a 71 Tuesday to finish with a three-round score of 213 (-3). While short sleeves is usually the norm, even in mid-February, the 2010 tournament was played in challenging conditions as the Owls won the tournament for the first time in program history. Battling afternoon wind chills in the 30s on Monday, the Owls jumped out to a three
