Enjoy Your Journey with the Lord!
“Daily Confession of Faith” In Christ I am anointed and a powerful person of God. I am a joint-heir with Jesus and more than a conqueror. I am a doer of the Word of God and a channel for His blessings. If God be for me, who can be against me? I am blessed coming in and I am blessed Going out. My enemies are fleeing before me. God has commanded His blessing on my storehouses. He has opened His Good treasures and I shall lend and not borrow. I am the head and not the tail. He has given me power to make wealth. I dwell in the secret place I have His protection and provision. God is my refuge, my fortress I am not afraid of the snare of the fowler. No Evil shall befall me and no plague shall come nigh My dwelling. God has given his angels Charge over me and they are bearing me up in their hands lest I dash my foot against a stone, as declared in Psalms 91. I Peter 2:9 establishes I am a chosen generation, A royal priesthood, a holy nation. I am a peculiar person called out of darkness Into His marvelous light. I Peter 2:24 states, I have been healed by the stripes of Jesus. Cancer, sugar diabetes, heart disease, sickness, Afflictions, infections, or any other disease can not enter my body. I am without spot or blemish, An intercessor, the righteousness of God, saved, and washed in the Blood of Jesus. “No weapon formed against me shall prosper, and every tongue Which rises against me in judgment You shall condemn. -
Sunflowers & Thistles
Sunflowers & Thistles Praise songs and protests by John Campbell Acknowledgements I was due to retire from full-time ministry with the United Reformed Church (URC) just as the Covid-19 pandemic began. But it truly felt like the wrong time to leave. Instead, I have been blessed with permission to remain in ministry through it all. So, I have stayed in active fellowship with High Cross United Reformed Church in Tottenham; Rectory Road and Manor Road United Reformed Churches in Stoke Newington; Clapton Park United Reformed Church in Hackney and Islington; and the South Lea Valley Local Area of the URC. I was also surrounded by valued ecumenical colleagues in Tottenham through Christians Together in Tottenham, and in touch with a wide circle of treasured colleagues and friends across Thames North Synod and beyond, including Jamaica and Ghana. Thanks to you all for sharing the journey. It is your fellowship that inspires me to write fresh songs to well-known tunes that might, just might, help to keep you singing as we all negotiate our way through these strange times. Prayers and blessings, John Campbell Song 37: O God who longs to make us whole A hymn celebrating the founding and work of the NHS. Written in 1998 for a special service in Leicester Cathedral, celebrating the NHS 50th anniversary. The third verse was added in 2021 to recognise the efforts and courage of people other than NHS staff during the pandemic. © 1998 and 2021 Michael Forster. Heritage Month
HARRIS BEACH RECOGNIZES NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH National Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States honors the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. We’re participating at Harris Beach by spotlighting interesting Hispanic public figures, and facts about different countries, and testing your language skills. As our focus on National Hispanic Heritage Month continues, this week we focus on a figure from the world of sports: Roberto Clemente, who is known as much for his accomplishments as humanitarian as he is for his feats on the field of play. ROBERTO CLEMENTE Roberto Enrique Clemente Walker of Puerto Rico, born August 18, 1934, has the distinction of being the first Latin American and Caribbean player to be inducted in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. He played right field over 18 seasons for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Clemente’s untimely death established the precedent that, as an alternative to the five-year retirement period, a player who has been deceased for at least six months is eligible for entry into the Hall of Fame. Clemente was the youngest of 7 children and was raised in Barrio San Antón, Carolina, Puerto Rico. During his childhood, his father worked as foreman of sugar crops located in the municipality and, because the family’s resources were limited, Clemente worked alongside his father in the fields by loading and unloading trucks. Clemente was a track and field star and Olympic hopeful before deciding to turn his full attention to baseball. His interest in baseball showed itself early on in childhood with Clemente often times playing against neighboring barrios. -

St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church NINTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST August 1, 2020 6:00 PM They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises. Romans 9:4 OUR MISSION As a Lutheran community of faith, we continue our history of proclaiming Christ crucified through Word and Sacrament in joyful service to God and our neighbor. WELCOME TO ST. MATTHEW’S LUTHERAN CHURCH We welcome all who worship with us today. We gather as the Body of Christ to offer ourselves as a living sacrifice of thanksgiving and praise to God. Ushers are available to answer any of your questions. The church is equipped with a hearing impaired system. If you need a listening device, it may be obtained from an usher. In the minutes prior to the beginning of each service, the doors to the nave are closed, and quiet is encouraged. Music is offered which prepares worshipers to receive God’s gifts from His Hand – the forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation. Everyone is asked to sign the Attendance Record found at the end of each pew or row of chairs. Please sign this record and pass it down to those beside you during the announcements. As it is returned, please note who is worshipping with you. The Attendance Record helps worshipers to put names and faces together. We make new friends in this way and grow in care for each other. Celebrating Holy Communion: We believe, teach, and confess Christ is truly present in the bread and wine. -

They’re more than just words. They’re promises that hopefully both parties stick to throughout the marriage. A heartfelt exchange of vows has a lasting impact on the lives of each couple. I created this eBook to help couples craft their wedding vows and to take the stress out of having to reinvent the wheel when it comes to writing vows. Most couples read over the assortment of choices below and choose a complete vow as it is written or copy and paste sentences they like together to create their own unique vows. WRITING YOUR OWN VOWS I don’t encourage writing your own vows unless you really have a deep desire to do so. -
United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit
United States Court of Appeals For the First Circuit Nos. 12-2364, 12-2367 UNITED STATES, Appellee, v. WENDELL RIVERA-RUPERTO, a/k/a Arsenio Rivera, Defendant, Appellant. APPEALS FROM THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE DISTRICT OF PUERTO RICO [Hon. Juan M. Pérez-Giménez, U.S. District Judge] Before Torruella, Lipez, and Thompson, Circuit Judges. H. Manuel Hernández for appellant. Robert J. Heberle, Attorney, Public Integrity Section, Criminal Division, U.S. Department of Justice, with whom Francisco A. Besosa-Martínez, Assistant United States Attorney, Nelson Pérez-Sosa, Assistant United States Attorney, Chief, Appellate Division, and Rosa Emilia Rodríguez-Vélez, United States Attorney, were on brief, for appellee. January 13, 2017 THOMPSON, Circuit Judge. This case arises out of a now- familiar, large-scale FBI investigation known as "Operation Guard Shack," in which the FBI, in an effort to root out police corruption throughout Puerto Rico, orchestrated a series of staged drug deals over the course of several years.1 For his participation in six of these Operation Guard Shack drug deals, Defendant- Appellant Wendell Rivera-Ruperto stood two trials and was found guilty of various federal drug and firearms-related crimes. The convictions resulted in Rivera-Ruperto receiving a combined sentence of 161-years and 10-months' imprisonment. Although Rivera-Ruperto raises similar challenges in his appeals from the two separate trials, each trial was presided over by a different district judge. Thus, there are two cases on appeal, and we address the various challenges today in separate opinions.2 In this present appeal from the first trial, Rivera- Ruperto argues that the district court committed reversible errors when it: (1) denied his claim for ineffective assistance of counsel during the plea-bargaining stage; (2) failed to instruct the jury that it was required to find drug quantity beyond a reasonable 1 See, e.g., United States v. -

The Construction of Gibraltarian Identity in MG
The Line and the Limit of Britishness: The Construction ∗ of Gibraltarian Identity in M. G. Sanchez’s Writing ANA Mª MANZANAS CALVO Institution address: Universidad de Salamanca. Accepted 25/02/2017 How to cite this article: Manzanas Calvo, Ana Mª “The Line and the Limit of Britishness: The Construction of Gibraltarian Identity in M. G. Sanchez’s Writing.” ES Review. Spanish Journal of English Studies 38 (2017): 27‒45. DOI: https://doi.org/ 10.24197/ersjes.38.2017.27-45 Abstract: From Anthony Burgess’s musings during the Second World War to recent scholarly assessments, Gibraltar has been considered a no man’s literary land. However, the Rock has produced a steady body of literature written in English throughout the second half of the twentieth century and into the present. Apparently situated in the midst of two identitary deficits, Gibraltarian literature occupies a narrative space that is neither British nor Spanish but something else. M. G. Sanchez’s novels and memoir situate themselves in this liminal space of multiple cultural traditions and linguistic contami-nation. The writer anatomizes this space crossed and partitioned by multiple and fluid borders and boundaries. What appears as deficient or lacking from the British and the Spanish points of view, the curse of the periphery, the curse of inhabiting a no man’s land, is repossessed in Sanchez’s writing in order to flesh out a border culture with very specific linguistic and cultural traits.
