  • Cruising Guide to the Philippines
Cruising Guide to the Philippines For Yachtsmen By Conant M. Webb Draft of 06/16/09 Webb - Cruising Guide to the Phillippines Page 2 INTRODUCTION The Philippines is the second largest archipelago in the world after Indonesia, with around 7,000 islands. Relatively few yachts cruise here, but there seem to be more every year. In most areas it is still rare to run across another yacht. There are pristine coral reefs, turquoise bays and snug anchorages, as well as more metropolitan delights. The Filipino people are very friendly and sometimes embarrassingly hospitable. Their culture is a unique mixture of indigenous, Spanish, Asian and American. Philippine charts are inexpensive and reasonably good. English is widely (although not universally) spoken. The cost of living is very reasonable. This book is intended to meet the particular needs of the cruising yachtsman with a boat in the 10-20 meter range. It supplements (but is not intended to replace) conventional navigational materials, a discussion of which can be found below on page 16. I have tried to make this book accurate, but responsibility for the safety of your vessel and its crew must remain yours alone. CONVENTIONS IN THIS BOOK Coordinates are given for various features to help you find them on a chart, not for uncritical use with GPS. In most cases the position is approximate, and is only given to the nearest whole minute. Where coordinates are expressed more exactly, in decimal minutes or minutes and seconds, the relevant chart is mentioned or WGS 84 is the datum used. See the References section (page 157) for specific details of the chart edition used.

ZAMBOANGA PENINSULA PRIORITY PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS FOR RESOURCE MOBILIZATION December 2015 FOREWORD This document is the output of the Regional Development Council (RDC) IX Secretariat’s effort to push the development of the region by facilitating the identifi cation of the priority interventions that need the support of donor agencies, policymakers, particularly the region’s congressional representatives, national government agencies, and the Mindanao Development Authority. It is largely based on the submissions of ZamPen’s regional line agencies and local government units. Following a set of RDC-approved criteria, the projects identifi ed shall sail the region towards its vision of becoming the Southern Agri-Fisheries Corridor of the Philippines. This portfolio is anticipated to jumpstart resource mobilization as it equips a potential investor with the details of the region’s priority programs/projects. It shall be a living document, which needs periodic updating and monitoring. The continued concerted efforts among the RDC IX sectoral committee members and the Council itself are therefore fervently sought, in pursuit of regional development. Together as one region, we build a better Zamboanga Peninsula! Management Report for Bumphead Parrotfish (Bolbometopon muricatum) Status Review under the Endangered Species Act: Existing Regulatory Mechanisms (per Endangered Species Act § 4(a)(1)(D), 16 U.S.C. § 1533(a)(1)(D)) and Conservation Efforts (per Endangered Species Act § 4(b)(1)(A), 16 U.S.C. § 1533(b)(1)(A)) September 2012 Bumphead parrotfish for sale in market, Aceh, Indonesia (photo provided by Crispen Wilson) Pacific Islands Regional Office National Marine Fisheries Service National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Department of Commerce Executive Summary Introduction On January 4, 2010, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) received a petition from WildEarth Guardians to list bumphead parrotfish (Bolbometopon muricatum) as either threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). In response, NMFS issued a 90-day finding (75 Fed. Reg.16713 (Apr. 2, 2010)), wherein the petition was determined to contain substantial information indicating that listing the species may be warranted. Thus, NMFS initiated a comprehensive status review of bumphead parrotfish, which was completed jointly by our Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC) and Pacific Islands Regional Office (PIRO). PIFSC established a Bumphead Parrotfish Biological Review Team (BRT) to complete a biological report on the status of the species and threats to the species (hereafter “BRT Report”, cited as Kobayashi et al. 2011). PIRO staff completed this report on management activities affecting the species across its range, including existing regulatory mechanisms and non- regulatory conservation efforts (hereafter “Management Report”). The BRT Report and Management Report together constitute the comprehensive bumphead parrotfish status review. The process for determining whether a species should be listed as threatened or endangered is based upon the best scientific and commercial data available and is described in sections 4(a)(1) and 4(b)(1)(A) of the ESA (16 U.S.C.

Their accounts, whether in- timate letters to friends and relatives, annual or occasional F reports to superiors, or descriptions written expressly for public reading, contain abundant information for the student of missiology, the historian, and the anthropologist. The Jesuit Relations of North America are a notable case in point. From 1632 to 1673, the annual reports sent by mis- sionaries of New France to their superiors at Montreal or Que- bec were relayed to the French provincial. These letters, pub- lished at Paris in the years of their transmittal, later became the core of the 72-volume collection and translation edited by R.
