The Chicago Transit Authority will conduct the next round of public meetings at the end of January to continue preparation to apply for federal funding for modernization of the Red and Purple Lines. Funding has not yet been identified for any of the potential improvements but the agency continues to advance the planning process in an effort to be fully prepared if funding should become available.

These meetings will provide customers with several different plans for infrastructure improvements based on input gathered from the first round of public meetings held at the end of 2009, and provide the opportunity for members of the public to provide comment. Public input will be used to help identify the environmental studies to be considered in the Tier I Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), one of the steps necessary to make this project eligible to apply for federal funding. The Tier 1 Draft EIS will identify and analyze the plan for all potential corridor-wide improvements that could be implemented as part of the project.

The first set of public meetings was designed to gather public input on existing conditions and issues facing the Red Line North and Purple Line, and to provide information on the Red/Purple Modernization process and estimated timeline.

The four public meetings will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the following dates:

Monday, January 24, 2011 St. Augustine College* 1325 W. Argyle St. Chicago, IL 60640

Wednesday, January 26, 2011 New Field Primary School* 1707 W. Morse Ave. Chicago, IL 60626

Tuesday, January 25, 2011 Nicholas Senn High School* 5900 N Glenwood Ave. Chicago, IL 60660

Thursday, January 27 2011 Fleetwood-Jourdain Center* 1655 Foster Street Evanston, IL 60201 *All facilities are accessible to people with disabilities.

Written comments will be accepted until Friday, February 18 via fax at 312-681-4195, e-mail [email protected] or by sending written comments to: Steve Hands Strategic Planning & Policy - Chicago Transit Authority PO Box 7602 Chicago, IL 60680-7602

CTA PUBLIC SCOPING MEETINGS Red and Purple Lines Modernization Project Environmental Impact Statement The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is proposing to make improvements, subject to the availability of funding, to the Red Line (North) and the Purple Line, a distance of 9.5 miles from immediately north of Belmont station to Linden station. The improvements are proposed in order to bring the existing transit stations, tracks, systems and structures into a state of good repair. This project is one part of CTA’s effort to extend and enhance the entire Red Line. Attend one of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) public scoping meetings to learn more about the project and provide feedback on the proposed alternatives, the purpose and need for the project and the environmental and community impacts to be evaluated. The input will help shape the content of the Draft EIS. Monday, January 24, 2011 Tuesday, January 25, 2011 6pm to 8:30pm 6pm to 8:30pm St. Augustine College* Nicholas Senn High School* 1345 W.
