From your VNA school nurse ~

Welcome back! As you wade through the paperwork that is part of the back to school shuffle, please be sure to note any changes that have occurred related to your child’s health. The annual health update form is an important tool used by the school nurse to identify students who might need some support dealing with their health needs during the school day. Updating any immunizations a student has received in the past 12 months is also needed to keep their record at school current.

If your child requires any medication at school, whether it is a prescription or over-the-counter, you must obtain written documentation from the doctor (as outlined in the handbook) and your written permission is also needed. Medication forms are online, or you may pick up a copy in the main office or they can be faxed to you and/or your physician for completion. These forms must be on file in the school health office before medications can be given to your student during the school day. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Finally, please remember to do your part not to spread illness at school. Washing hands, using alcohol based gels, and keeping sick students home are the best ways to reduce spreading of infections. We all need to do our part to reduce the transmission of illness. Don’t forget to eat a healthy diet, get lots of sleep, and drink more water to keep your immune system at its best.
