No. 1 UCLA Takes Home Pac-12 Title and Thacher Cup, 4-1, over California

For the third time in the last five years, UCLA has claimed the Pac-12 Men's Tournament Championship and it is the second time (2013) they have swept the regular season and tournament titles. On the women's side, the matchups have been decided for the singles and doubles finals on Sunday.

No. 1 seed UCLA beat No. 3 seed California to win the men's title and secure the NCAA Tournament automatic qualifier. UCLA won the doubles point with and Mackenzie McDonald winning on court No. 1, 6-1. On court No. 3, Austin Rapp and Maxime Cressy of UCLA clinched the point with a 6-3 victory. The Golden Bears responded by winning four of the first six sets but Redlicki won 6-2, 6-3 on court No. 2 to give UCLA a 2-0 lead. California then got a point back from court No. 4 with Oskar Wikberg's 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory. Courts one, three, five and six all went to the third set and UCLA prevailed on courts six and one to get the win. Joseph DiGiulio won, 3-6, 7-6 (6), 6-3, on court No. 6 and just moments later McDonald, the team captain, sealed the victory for the Bruins on court No. 1, 5-7, 6- 4, 6-4.

In the women's doubles semifinal, Ebony Panoho and Alexandra Osborne of Arizona State upset the No. 4 seed Giuliana Olmos and Gabby Smith of USC by a score of 6-2. In the final, the Sun Devils will matchup against Stanford's Melissa Lord and Carol Zhao, who won 6-4 over Nour Abbes and Maki Kobayashi of Washington.

For the women's singles semifinal, UCLA's No. 4 seed Catherine Harrison won, 6-1, 6-4, over No. 7 seed Lauren Marker of Arizona. Harrison will look to defend her Pac-12 Singles Championship against No. 1 seed Maegan Manasse of California. Manasse knocked off Olmos by a score of 6-4, 6-0.

The 2016 Pac-12 Tennis Championships continue tomorrow, Sunday, April 24, with the championship matches for the women's singles and doubles, scheduled for 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. PT at Libbey Park.
