Golden/Kilfeacle Sunday, 6th September, 1998 by Leonard Fitzgerald Today the 199B West Senior Championship witnesses its highest peak and enters the final episode of yet another enthralling season. Since their championship triumph last year, the Clonoulty/Rossmore bandwagon has continued to roll on relentlessly to another divisional championship With the newly establi&hed GoldenlKilleacie novices attempting to halt their march at all costs. As we puilihe curtain down for another year and reflect on the diVision's best perform ers so far, two clubs have duty earned their place In the final With the coveted Willie Dwyer Cup the top prize on oHer. However, it should be a thrilling contest between two clubs from very different ends of the hurling speclrum in terms of success over the years. Clonoulty/Aossmore are contesting their sixth final in the past decade having been suc cessful on Ihree occasions in 1989, 1992 and 1996 respectively. Presenlly they possess abundance of talent in all sectors of the field. Aidan Buller at centre-back has already proved a match-winner with his long-range frees against Kickhams in the semi-final al crucial moments. Michael (Bonny) Kennedy, Decland Ryan and goalkeeper Andrew Fryday are also capable of turning a game on its head in an instant. The Goldenr",lIeacle compatriots are relative newcomers to championship finals, a feat nol experienced since 1986 and a·senior hila not achieved since 1972 against their near neighbours Cashel King Cormacs. With victories against Eire OgIAnnacarty and Cappawhite, their march to the hnal has been relatively unnoticed. The 1995 Intermediate County Champions meteoric rise to senior stardom has happened sooner I ., .. , ·;''''ed. Tt>e -eturn of David Fogarty to centre·back has been a huge asset in ••erca. Clonmel Advertiser. 20-4-1822 We regret having to mention a cruel and barbarous murder, attended with circumstances of great audacity, that has taken place on the borders of Tipperary and Kilkenny. A farmer of the name of Morris, at Killemry, near Nine-Mile-House, having become obnoxious to the public disturbers, received a threatening notice some short time back, he having lately come to reside there. On Wednesday night last a cow of his was driven into the bog, where she perished; on Thursday morning he sent two servants, a male and female, to the bog, the male servant to skin the cow and the female to assist him; but while the woman went for a pail of water, three ruffians came, and each of them discharged their arms at him, and lodged several balls and slugs in his body, and then went off. This occurred about midday. No one dared to interfere, either for the prevention of this crime, or to follow in pursuit of the murderers. The sufferer was quite a youth, and had committed no offence, even against the banditti, but that of doing his master’s business. Clonmel Advertiser 24-8-1835 Last Saturday, being the fair day at Carrick-on-Suir, and also a holiday in the Roman Catholic Church, an immense assemblage of the peasantry poured into the town at an early hour from all directions of the surrounding country. The show of cattle was was by no means inferior-but the only disposable commodity , for which a brisk demand appeared evidently conspicuous, was for Feehans brown stout.

  • The List of Church of Ireland Parish Registers
THE LIST of CHURCH OF IRELAND PARISH REGISTERS A Colour-coded Resource Accounting For What Survives; Where It Is; & With Additional Information of Copies, Transcripts and Online Indexes SEPTEMBER 2021 The List of Parish Registers The List of Church of Ireland Parish Registers was originally compiled in-house for the Public Record Office of Ireland (PROI), now the National Archives of Ireland (NAI), by Miss Margaret Griffith (1911-2001) Deputy Keeper of the PROI during the 1950s. Griffith’s original list (which was titled the Table of Parochial Records and Copies) was based on inventories returned by the parochial officers about the year 1875/6, and thereafter corrected in the light of subsequent events - most particularly the tragic destruction of the PROI in 1922 when over 500 collections were destroyed. A table showing the position before 1922 had been published in July 1891 as an appendix to the 23rd Report of the Deputy Keeper of the Public Records Office of Ireland. In the light of the 1922 fire, the list changed dramatically – the large numbers of collections underlined indicated that they had been destroyed by fire in 1922. The List has been updated regularly since 1984, when PROI agreed that the RCB Library should be the place of deposit for Church of Ireland registers. Under the tenure of Dr Raymond Refaussé, the Church’s first professional archivist, the work of gathering in registers and other local records from local custody was carried out in earnest and today the RCB Library’s parish collections number 1,114. The Library is also responsible for the care of registers that remain in local custody, although until they are transferred it is difficult to ascertain exactly what dates are covered.

  • Co. Tipperary Senior Football Final Match Programme 1983
Co. Tipperary Senior Football Final Match Programme 1983 INTERMEDIATE FINAL The curtain raiser to the $enior football final today is the West intermediate hurling tinal. The contestants are neighbours and sometimes Partners and more noted for their football than their hurling prowess. Lattin and Emly qualified for today's final as a result of coming top of the league table in the West Intermediate competition. The other teams involved were Arravale Rovers, Galtee Rovers, Bansha. Rockwell Rovers, Rosegreen, Solonead. Lattin and Emly ended up the top two teams on points. When they did meet Lattin got the verdict by 5-6 to ,·11. Both teams were in the junior ranks last year. EMLY Emly wear the colours black and amber and have made notable strides in recent years in the promotion of hurling in the parish. These efforts have been crowned with some success at the juvenile level. However, it is in football that they have made their name. The names of Patsy Dalton and Ailbe Ryan were famous on Tipperary and Munster football teams. The parish won junior football titles in 1938 and 1968 and more recently, combined with lattin, they won the 1982 minor and under·21 football championships. The success of their hurling policy is seen by the presence of two Tipperary minor hurlers on today's team. Michael Cunningham and M. Corcoran won Munster and AII·lreland minor hurling medals with Tipperary in 1982 and Munster medals in 1983. This year also they played on the Tipperary minor football team. Club chairman is Sean McManus. The secretary is Eamon O.Meara and the treasurer is Paddy Clancy.

  • Statement from the Archbishop of Cashel & Emly
Statement from the Archbishop of Cashel & Emly On behalf of the Diocese of Cashel & Emly I welcome this report of the National Board for Safeguarding Children and fully accept its recommendations. The majority of the recommendations have been implemented and the remainder will be completed as speedily as possible. Firstly, I re-iterate my sincere apologies to those who have been harmed in this manner by priests of the Diocese. What happened to them was an outrageous betrayal of the priests’ calling and deserves our complete condemnation. Their suffering continues and we once again offer them not only our prayers but assistance in any way we can. The report by the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in Ireland (NBSCCCI) on safeguarding practice in Cashel & Emly is generally very positive and complimentary for which we are grateful. I warmly thank them for this on behalf of the priests and people of the Diocese. It is a testament to the commitment and hard work of all those who endeavour to ensure that our practices and procedures are the best we can possibly make them. However, there can be no room for complacency. The hard work must continue so that we can be assured that the children and young adults in our midst are kept safe from harm. Vigilance is essential as the threat of harm does not go away. Therefore, we must be constantly on our guard and keep in place the necessary structures to enable those who have any evidence, or suspicions, of wrongdoing to take appropriate action such as informing the Designated Officer, the Gardaí or the HSE.
