49. Sonora Pass Back Packing Hike (Dardanelles)

Activity: Backpacking hike camp out Age: Webelos II Time of year: Summer, Fall RSVP: None (Wilderness and fire permit) Location: Highway 120 to 108, off at Clark Fork, stay left up the hill over fence creek, left on dirt road after fence creek, past fence creek camp ground to end of road, park at the county line trail head. (Carson Iceberg Wilderness)

Information: 2.5 mile hike in to McCormick Creek. Camp along the creek. Filter water only. Late Fall the creek may be low, but never dry. When you are centered in the McCormick Creek valley with the Dardanelles peaks north and south, there is a big rock with a great fire circle and camp right between the creek and trail. Lots of fire wood around. This valley is like Yosemite just no people. Do not go at the start of dear season due to hunters. This is a great beginner backpack trip, some up hill on the way in, down hill back.
