Felix Romuliana was an imperial palace built by Emperor Galerius Maximianus on the spacious plateau of Gamzigrad, near the city of Zaječar. Galerius, who was born in this area, raised the palace in the 3rd and 4th centuries in honour of himself and his mother , after whom he named it. It belongs to a special category of Roman court architecture associated only with the period of the and is the best-preserved example of this style.

Ravanica monastery, with the Church of the Holy Ascension surrounded by strong defensive walls with seven towers, lies at the foot of Kučaj mountains, in the village of Senje, near the city of Ćuprija. It was the endowment of Prince Lazar. It was built during the period between 1375 and 1377, and its frescoes were painted in the years preceding the Battle of . Due to its architectural and artistic features, the Ravanica church can be called the birthplace of the new artistic movement called the Morava school.

Resava Monastery is situated by the Resava brook, close to Despotovac, and is one of the last monuments of Serbian medieval culture. The church was raised by Despot Stefan Lazarević, the son of Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović. The monastery catholicon, an extravagant and large refectory were built from 1406 to 1418.
