Christmas Message from the Club Chairman

On the eve of the second half of the Scottish leg of the Magners’ League, I would like to pass on season’s greetings to every one of you from both myself and the Committee. I’m sure you will agree that it has been exciting to watch these last few weeks. They have stitched together some sensational wins at home and crucially held on to secure victory away to Narbonne , an excellent result which deservedly highlighted Glasgow in European rugby. The team needs to keep up this valuable momentum and - as their fans - it now falls to us to play our part as the “16 th man”! Nothing should focus our support more keenly than when Rugby come calling to Hughenden on Friday night: we have a real chance here and every ounce of support we can muster will surely count. Let’s make it count and block Auld Reekie’s chimney: knowledgeable folk everywhere know that Santa’s a Glasgow man at heart !! So home in on Hughenden and bring your singing voices to the game tomorrow night. As Glasgow fans we now have the opportunity to show what rugby means to us - remember that Setanta will be televising the game: the entire club is on show! Let’s make our presence known on the touchline and on the air this Friday and make this “Glasgow make some noise” announcer mullarkey as redundant as a turkey on Boxing Day. As valued members of the Supporters’ Club, please ensure you are carrying your membership card TO RECEIVE YOUR CHRISTMAS PRESENT FROM THE COMMITTEE. Then join me in front of the stand during the game and make the name of the GLASGOW WARRIORS mean something on Setanta . YOU + Setanta + Santa = Gunners scunnered! Wishing all the best in 2007 for Glasgow Warriors and our superb fans, Yours aye, Robert Hunter

Allez Glasgow! Winning pretty at home, and winning ugly away. Since the last newsletter, the Warriors have stepped up to the challenge of European competition by following up some stylish and assertive play in the home tie against Narbonne by showing real grit and mental strength in the return leg – away from home, in tough conditions – to close out a narrow 8-7 win.

Narbonne looked stunned at Glasgow’s attacking edge, and at the Warriors success in turning their good play into a convincing winning score.

Many in the crowd – as well as – anticipated a backlash from a wounded Narbonne side who would have been looking to regain some pride from the return match.

As it turned out, the Warriors kept their heads and won a vital away win – an achievement that opens up a real opportunity to progress into the knockout stages of the Challenge Cup. Although the focus turns to the Magners League next, if the Warriors can mix their attacking edge with the resilience needed to travel away successfully, they can look forward to the New Year with a renewed enthusiasm……..

Next game – Warriors v Edinburgh (Fri 22 Dec, 7:30pm)

……….and they won’t have long to wait to put all this to the test, as the first of two consecutive “local” derby matches will give the Warriors the chance to climb the table, as well as for some in the squad to put down a marker for the Six Nations squad. Supporters Bus to Borders
