It is amazing when you go to these awards how many people work tirelessly behind the scenes and what a tremendous organisation Surf Lifesaving is and one I am very proud to be a member of. This has also been a big season for the club in the building of the under ground storage shed giving us ample storage room for the senior club, nippers and boaties. Substantial repairs and upgrade work have been completed on the hall by the council with our club now being modernized and an envy of other clubs. This would not have been achieved without the tireless work of the building committee consisting of Mark Percy, Ken Ryan and Paul Smith. Thank you gentlemen your work is greatly appreciated. The Education team has had a very successful year increasing the number of awards achieved compared to last season and also upgrading members from the old ARC award to the new ARTC award. 7 club members are also regularly seen assessing exams in the Randwick district.

CSLSC 105th Annual Report 19 financials cont... CLOVELLY SURF LIFESAVING CLUB INC. INDEPENDENT AUDITORS’ REPORT TO THE MEMBERS

Scope I have audited the accompanying consolidated financial statements, being a General Purpose Financial Report of Clovelly Surf Lifesaving Club Inc. and its affiliate organisations for the year ended 30 April, 2011 consisting of the Consolidated Statement of Financial Position, Consolidated Statement of Cash Flows, Consolidated Statement of Financial Performance and accompanying Notes. The Club Committee is responsible for the preparation and presentation of the consolidated financial statements and the information they contain. I have conducted an independent audit of these financial statements in order to express an opinion on them to the members of the Club on their preparation and presentation.

The financial statements have been prepared for distribution to members for the purpose of fulfilling the Committee’s financial reporting requirements under the Club’s rules. I disclaim any assumption of responsibility for any reliance on this report or on the financial statements to which it relates to any person other than the members, or for any purpose other than that for which it was prepared.

My audit has been conducted in accordance with Australian Auditing Standards to provide reasonable assurance whether the financial statements are free of material misstatement. My procedures included examination, on a test basis, of evidence supporting the amounts and other disclosures in the financial statements, and significant accounting estimates. These procedures have been undertaken to form an opinion as to whether, in all material respects, the financial statements are presented fairly in accordance with Accounting Standards and other mandatory professional reporting requirements so as to present a view which is consistent with my understanding of the Club’s financial position and the results of its operations and cash flows.

The audit opinion expressed in this report has been formed on the above basis.

Qaulification As is common in an organisation of this type it is not practical for the Club to maintain an effective system of internal control over income from raffles, car park income, fund raising events and, clothing sales. Accordingly, to this extent my audit was limited to amounts recorded and banked. I am therefore unable to express an opinion whether the said sources of revenue are complete

Qualified Audit Opinion

In my opinion, except for the effects on the financial report for such adjustments, if any, as might have been required had the limitation on my audit procedures referred to in the qualification paragraph not existed the financial report of the Clovelly Surf Lifesaving Club Inc. for the year ended 30 April, 2011 presents fairly the financial position of the Club as at 30 April, 2011 and the results of its operations and its cash flows for the year then ended.

I also report that, subject to the above qualification: (a) the financial statements show a true and fair view of the fundraising appeals conducted during the year; (b) the accounting and associated records have been properly kept during the year in accordance with the Charitable Fundraising Act 1991 and the Regulations; (c) money received as a result of fundraising appeals conducted during the year has been properly accounted for and applied in accordance with Charitable Fundraising Act 1991 and the Regulations; (d) at the date of this report there are reasonable grounds to believe that the Club will be able to pay its debts as and when they fall due.

24 CSLSC 105th Annual Report It has been one of my frustrations this year that some great ideas from patrollers have not been actioned as quickly as I would have liked. These would include but not limited to the Northern Promenade lock box, the painting of no standing area associated with the driveway onto the northern promenade. Unfortunately these ideas require approval from not just the committee, but also third parties. The club is endeavouring to have these ideas and issues actioned. My position as Captain this year would not have been as effective if it were not for the various stewards that looked after specific areas of the 1. club. I appreciate your hard work and input and 1. 26 CSLSC 105th Annual Report Chief Training Officer Report In the 2010/2011 season Clovelly attained 231 Craig and Jess have been very instrumental awards, which are twice as many awards as the past two seasons training SRC for the club last season, which I am sure you will agree is so I would like to extend my thanks to them a massive achievement. This would not have and I would also like to welcome Karon to the been possible without the hard work and the education team. This squad received a lot of experience of the education team that I am very praise from the assessors, so we look forward to happy to be a part of. these guys patrolling and I look forward to them completing their Bronze in the near future. The break down of awards is as follows: This season we continued our training of the Bronze Medallion/Cert II in Public Safety 31 under 13 nippers to do their Resuscitation Surf Rescue Certificate 15 Certificate which was organized and run by Silver Medallion Basic Beach Management 6 Christopher Thompson, Laura Percy and Gerry Silver Medallion IRB Driver 1 McGillion. This award prepares the nippers before they attend camps and it also introduces Resuscitation Certificate 13 them to the SRC award that they will be Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Certificate (ARTC) 66 commencing next season. This season Clovelly ran three Bronze Medallion courses, one of the squads consisted of Surf

Rescue Certificate holders upgrading to Bronze. 1. The lead instructors of these squads were: Christopher Thompson, Mark Goodwin, Tania 1. Team One Rouse and Glen Clarke, this allowed for the 31 members to be trained up. These lead trainers also played a key role in mentoring two new trainers: Catherine Barry and Molly Cocks. The Clovelly Surf Club warmly introduces these new trainers to the education team. I would like to make special mention to Al Pausey. Al has very quickly become the board familiarization expert for any squad, especially when we have training sessions at Maroubra. Al’s wealth of experience is very comforting to new members; and to some trainers as well.

Clovelly also trained one very large squad of Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) candidates. This squad was trained by Craig and Jessica Wheatley who also mentored Karon Lekeu at the same time. CSLSC 105th Annual Report 27 Chief Training Officer Report cont... There were two main challenges facing our One area that the education team is looking education team this season. This was not a simple task and I would like to especially thank our three very busy ARTC assessors for taking charge of this task: Deputy Director of Lifesaving Sydney Branch – John McNamee, Education Supervisor Randwick District – Glen Clarke and Assistant Lifesaving and Assistant Education Supervisor Randwick District – Mark Percy. This would have been impossible without you. As well as their extensive work in the upgrade, John McNamee and Glen Clarke successfully trained a squad of seven new ARTC awardees, thanks you guys so much! 1.

1. ARTC - Glen Clarke, Angus Fontaine, Jo Emery, Another achievement that the Clovelly SLSC Molly Cocks, Rebecca Cocks, Jounior Taurail, is very proud of is the fact that we were the Damien Cocks only club in Sydney Branch to train the Radio Operators Certificate. For quite a few seasons now Tony Beger has run this course which allows members to become more familiar with the radio which means more effective radio communication whilst on patrol. Thanks Tony.

28 CSLSC 105th Annual Report The Education team also ran a thorough review of proficiencies this season and some changes have been made. Next season Radios will be incorporated into the proficiency as well as a change to CPR. The education team has also put together a proficiency handbook that each member will be receiving very soon.

Finally I would like to thank my Assistant Chief Training Officer Laura Percy. Laura has been a member of the education team for a long time and she has done a great job this season. Thank you Laura!

Finally one big thank you to the education team 1. and anyone who helped out, you have made my job this season a lot easier than I anticipated.
