4 2004 football yyellowjacketsellowjgracelackets inin thethe prospros tom campos In 2004, Tom Campos became the most recent Yellowjacket to continue his football career after playing for Graceland University. Early in January, Campos signed a contract to play quarterback for the football team. Campos went to an open tryout for the Bandits and the Las Vegas Gladiators that was held in Sioux City, Neb. on January 4, 2004. By the end of the tryout, Campos was offered a contract to play for the Bandits, who are coached by Art Haege, the former coach of the . Campos reported to Sioux City, Iowa, for practice on February 28, in preparation for the Bandits’ fi rst game on March 26 at home against the . In his second game, Campos faced former teammate and Graceland alumnus, Steve Lovell, who currently plays for the . Campos played in 13 games for the Bandits, who went 8-6 on the season. Campos, from South Padre Island, Texas, was the quarterback for the 2003 Graceland Yellowjackets, who went 5-5 on the season. His passing stats include 129-262 pass completions for a total of 1812 yards and 16 touchdowns. The Bandits, from Sioux City, Iowa, are in the North Division of the Pacifi c Coast Conference of the National . The Bandits regularly play a 14-game schedule from March 26-June 26, with the opportunity to play more games in the postseason. chris coffin Graceland alumnus Chris Coffi n has been an integral piece of the two-year unbeaten streak of 18 straight wins for the of the APFL (American Professional Football League). Coffi n is a six-foot-one-inch, 215 pound quarterback with 61 completions in 87 attempts for 828 yards this season. He also had 23 touchdowns and just two interceptions for a 130.2 quarterback rating. Coffi n was an all-conference selection for Graceland in 1997, when the Yellowjackets were ranked as high as 16th in the NAIA national polls. The Koyotes are unbeaten in two years, with 18 straight victories and back-to-back APFL championships.

steve lovell Graceland graduate Steve Lovell is in his fi fth season as a and kick returner for the Omaha Beef football team. Lovell lead the Beef in all-purpose yards for the second year in a row, and in 2003 he averaged 22 yards per kick return. In 2004 Lovell was added to the Pacifi c North All- Star roster for kick returns. According to the Omaha Beef, Lovell is a crowd favorite because of his fearlessness and size. At Graceland, Lovell was a fi rst team all-conference player two years. He also served as a student assistant coach in 2000. The Omaha Beef are members of the Northern Division of the Pacifi c Conference of the National Indoor Football League. In 2004, the team played 17 games from late February to mid-July.

In 2004 the Graceland football team will wear black stickers on their helmets in memory of the late Howard Brunner, who was the team’s equipment manager and loyal Yellowjacket supporter for numerous years. Brunner, who passed away in 2004, will be remembered for his loyalty to the program, a commitment to the team concept over the individual and a desire to do even the little things well. Since 1994, the GU coaching staff has recognized a player who best demonstrates these qualities most admired in Howard. This player receives the Howard Brunner Teamwork Award.
