MLB Baseball Weekly --- Friday, April 14th, 2006 BY MATTHEW HATFIELD Welcome to our first edition of MLB Weekly for this season on Good Friday. I’m very excited that spring has come, the temperature is beginning to warm up on a more consistent basis and baseball has begun. A lot has already transpired early on in this 2006 baseball campaign so lets get to it…. Bonds, Barry Bonds: No Laughing or Lying Matter: It never ends with Barry Bonds, does it? Third on the all-time home run list, trailing only Babe Ruth and Henry ‘Hank’ Aaron, Bonds has been the center of attention for the baseball media and sports media. No surprise either. Just look at all the stuff revolving him; he’s a human lightning rod for public interest. The latest thing in the Bonds timeline: a federal grand jury investigating whether or not he committed perjury in 2003 when he testified in 2003 that he never used steroids. The news was first broken on Thursday night by CNN. What’s it all mean? That spotlight is only going to shine brighter, and maybe not all for the better. Barry Lamar Bonds is still stuck on 708 home runs for his career, an illustrious one at that I might add. (AP) Lets take a closer look at all the happenings surrounding the man chasing the Babe as well as Aaron’s mark of 755 career dingers. Before the season, Bonds dressed up as Paula Abdul, garnishing more than a few laughs. However, the steroid allegations and the release of the book ‘Game of Shadows’ was no laughing matter for the Bonds party.

  • Penguin Baseball History
Penguin Baseball History The Penguins baseball program began in 1948 with Men’s Basketball Coach Dom Rosselli at the helm. The program was halted following the 1950 season but returned in 1958 and has been a sport at YSU ever since. The Penguins have had seven coaches in school history, including current coach Rich Pasquale. In 2004, the Penguins qualified for their first NCAA Division I Regional in school history by winning the Horizon League Tournament. Playing host to the tournament at Eastwood Field, YSU posted a 4-0 mark beating the No. 2 seed, No. 3 seed (twice) and No. 1 seed on the way to the title. The Penguins played at the Austin Regional losing to Texas and TCU at the event. Prior to making the NCAA postseason in 2004, YSU last appeared on the Division II Regional stage in 1977, 1966 and 1964. Dom Rosselli also coached the program through 1981 and had a record of 418-219. All-time the Penguins have had nine Major League Baseball Draft picks, highlighted in 2001, when the San Francisco Giants selected Brad Hennessey in the first round. The most newsworthy Penguin to play in the majors is perhaps pitcher Dave Dravecky. Dravecky battled back from cancer to return to the Major Leagues in the early 1990’s before having his arm amputated because of his illness. (March 2013) Drive-Thru Records Founded 1996 Founder Richard Reines Stefanie Reines Distributor(s) INgrooves Genre Pop punk Alternative rock Indie rock Post-hardcore Country of origin USA Location Sherman Oaks, California Official website http://www.myspace.com/drivethrurecords Drive-Thru Records logo used on You Can't Do that on Vinyl Drive-Thru Records, established in 1996, was a California-based record label owned by siblings Richard and Stefanie Reines. The label was responsible for popularizing the pop-punk/emo sound of the early to mid-2000s. After facing financial obstacles in getting their bands' music into stores, Drive-Thru entered into a distribution deal with MCA/Universal. MCA was dissolved and changed into Geffen Records. One of the clauses of that agreement was MCA/Geffen being able to sign any band of their choosing from Drive-Thru's roster. Once the Universal deal ended, they signed a contract with independent label Sanctuary Records. Starting with a new roster, the label garnered a top 10 platinum hit with "Here In Your Arms" by the Hellogoodbye. However, Sanctuary was on the verge of bankruptcy, and sold their assets to Universal Music. Drive-Thru Records got trapped in that deal, and were stuck with UMD, the catalog division of Universal. The label's last release was in 2008, when Richard and Stefanie Reines decided to concentrate on artist management and put Drive-Thru Records on indefinite hiatus.
