The UWE Masterplan covers the Frenchay Campus as well as land purchased from Hewlett Packard (HP) in 2008. However, the UWE Estate can essentially be broken down into three principal areas, as noted on the plan adjacent: MoD Abbey Wood

• The Frenchay Campus and land acquired from HP for Bristol Business Park academic/UWE use (green); • Land acquired from HP but not wholly required for UWE academic use (purple/blue); and • Land East of Coldharbour Lane (yellow/blue).

The masterplanning process has focussed largely on the area identified for academic/UWE use. A Masterplan has Hewlett Packard (HP) been prepared, based on the Concept Statement endorsed by South Gloucestershire Council, which it is envisaged will meet UWE’s needs over the next 25 years. The primary driver for the Masterplan is the intention to relocate UWE’s three satellite campuses in Bristol (Glenside, St. Matthias and Bower Ashton) up to the Frenchay Campus. The St. Matthias Campus is expected to close by 2015 or earlier but timescales for the relocation of the Glenside and Bower Ashton campuses are yet to be determined.

Prior to this UWE are seeking to progress with a detailed application for a replacement Student Union. The new Student Union will be sited in the heart of the Campus, adjacent to a proposed new public transport hub. Cheswick Village Land acquired from HP but not wholly required for UWE use is on the western side of the Masterplan area. This includes the area now proposed for a 21,700 seat Stadium (for use by Bristol Rovers FC) and two areas of land proposed for potential commercial use. An application for the Stadium is now Stoke Park under consideration by South Gloucestershire Council (Ref: PT12/0888/F), due to be determined in June/July 2012. The application includes a 1,000 space car park, 900 of which will be utilised by UWE during the day (as a part-replacement for Car M32 Park 20). All 1,000 spaces will be made available to the football club for matches/events. Plans for the balance of this site are yet to be determined but preliminary proposals include a small hotel and a restaurant.
