Travel information

Flying to Tartu Tartu Airport has connections to Helsinki six days per week. The town center is about 10 km away and can be reached by the free Airport Express bus (E1) or taxi. See the airport webpage for more info.

Flying to Tallinn has direct connections to many cities in Europe. The distance between Tallinn and Tartu is about 180 km and takes 2-2.5 hours by coach, train or Airport Shuttle (late arrivals only). Coach to Tartu leaves at least every hour from the airport (between 6:35am and 11:05pm) and the tickets can be booked in advance (the coach service accepts electronic tickets on smartphones) or bought from the ticket machine at the airport. It is also possible to buy tickets from the coach driver, but please note there may not be seats available as the coaches start the journey from Tallinn Coach Station and the airport is the second stop. The Coach Station in Tartu is located in the town center within walking distance to many hotels, but taxis are also available at the station. Train to Tartu leaves ten times a day (between 6:17am and 8:23pm). The closest station to the airport is about 15 minute walk away (Ülemiste). Tickets can be bought online (electronic tickets are accepted on the train) or on board from the customer assistant (both cash and card are accepted). The train station in Tartu is about 1.5 km from the town center and can be reached by foot, free bus no 25 (departures synchronised with train arrivals) or taxi. Airport Shuttle to Tartu is meant for late arrivals or early departures. The tickets must be pre- booked online at least by 3pm the same day. The shuttle waits for passengers on late arrivals until 1am and takes them to their desired address in Tartu.

If you decide to spend some time in Tallinn, please see the airport webpage for information about travelling to the city center (4 km away). From Tallinn city center, Tartu can be reached by both coach (Tallinn Coach Station) and train (station Balti jaam).

Accommodation There are many hostels and hotels in Tartu town center. We hope everybody is able to find something suitable using Visit Tartu webpage, various hotel booking sites or a simple internet search. Note that in some cases prices may be cheaper when booked directly on the accommodation webpage.

DarkDivNet2019 workshop is held in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence EcolChange and sponsored by the Doctoral School of Earth Sciences and Ecology. The workshop is integrated with the doctoral school on evaluation of biotic interactions, dark diversity and their applications.
