Shout Out from Alamance Community College

According to the US Department of Labor, less than 4% of tradesmen are female.

During summer camp, girls will receive an imaginary budget to buy material for their own product ideas; they will make these products and learn how to market them. In groups of four, they will be mentored by female students in the trades, and they will get the chance to network with female company representatives during a daily lunch & learn.

At the end of the week, the high school girls will present their products to a jury; just like in the Shark Tank TV show.

The summer camp will take place from July 20 to July 24, 8 AM to 5 PM, at ACC. Lunch will be provided.

There will also be two orientation nights: May 14 and June 25, 5:00 to 7:30 PM at ACC. We are asking for a $20 registration fee.

If you know any girls that may be interested in the summer camp, please share the following registration link with them: https://tinyurl.com/GirlsSharkTank.

Diligent, student-centered, creative, resourceful, impactful, team player, and highly effective were words used to describe Matt Haley, our Secondary Learning Community Administrator of the Month. Matt is definitely an example of a life-long learner as he is always researching best practices that will allow him to take his school to the next level. Shout Out for the Western High AP Seminar Revonda Johnson

Western Alamance High School AP Seminar students engage in "cross-curricular conversations that explore the complexities of academic and real-world topics and issues by analyzing varying perspectives."

ALAMANCE-BURLINGTON SCHOOLS AROUND OUR SCHOOLS SHOUT OUTS Mar. 6, 2020

They shared those perspectives this past week when they presented in their small groups. These students use an inquiry framework to analyze multiple sources in order to develop their own perspective and solutions to their topic question. They then design and deliver an oral and visual presentation with their team and eventually will also defend their perspective individually. AP Seminar strengthens a student's oral and written skills and is one part of the AP Capstone Program.

From Artificial Intelligence to the Fashion Industry and Its Impact on Our Environment, I was able to learn so much from our young people.

They will definitely be prepared for their next stage after graduation!

On March 4th, Sgt. Robert Wilson, a Correction Officer for Polk Correctional Institution and the brother of Jennifer Warren, a substitute teacher at Woodlawn Middle School, spoke to the, “Change Boy's” Mentoring group about making good decisions, how good & bad decisions helped mold his life for the better. He shared personal stories of poor choices about himself and with friends. However, he turned things around, has a great career and life. He got real about "true friends", what that was and the "special someone" he think is going to be around forever. ALAMANCE-BURLINGTON SCHOOLS AROUND OUR SCHOOLS SHOUT OUTS Mar. 6, 2020

He addressed how people don't always wait for you even when they say they will. They come from all walks of life and that we should not judge people on their situation because we don't know what they are going through. He talked about people don't have everything they want, that people with disabilities are special and should be treated with respect. He encouraged them to respect themselves, try to be the best person possible and honesty will get you further in life. Thanks for taking time on your day off Sgt Wilson, to empower and support our future leaders. We know, " It takes a village to raise a child". Shout Out for ABSS School Social Workers Kim Yarborough, Lead SSW

We have been so honored to celebrate School Social Work Week 2020! We are thankful to be a part of a profession that has the opportunity to work with students and families each day. By conducting home visits, we become better informed of the whole child. We are always working with the community and making community referrals to support families.

Today we had the opportunity to celebrate our profession. In true social work fashion, because we are natural givers, we took up supplies to donate to Allied Shelter. We wanted to not only celebrate who we are, but give back to an agency that supports us continuously.

The social workers also got to read the kind words that were shared by their administrators through a PowerPoint presentation. Those words were an absolute true picture and testimony to the services they provide each and every day. Thank you school social workers for allowing me to be a part of a great team.

Thank you also to central office staff for your ongoing support as well. I am extremely and forever grateful!
