It was unfortunate that the details reg;arding membership were virtually the same as those given ta the General Sec'y for his Report, but this was accepted by all. without comment.^ What did confuse them was- that Mrs Card then continued with, some details of the pros^' cons, and cost? of "Signpost"' based on something workwd out by a member of her family. The Chairman was embarrased by this and attempted to stop the "flow" as these matters, were to be the subject of Motions and discussion later.as set out in the Agenda,. But to no avail. Some time was lost, to .no good purpose, and dealing with such matters at the pr.ecedi:[jg Committee Meeting co\ald have avoided this. . • The Pinan'cial Report,as published in ."Signpost"^was accepted as satisfactory. The Eledtion of Officers-for 1986 commenced with a letter from our President to the General SE'c'y be.iikg read out. In the letter, Mr W.Moore indicated that he wished to.stand, dovm from that Office, and proffered any assistance required by a successor. A nice, warm letter, thanking, all .'those who had supported him in his term of office. This was well received by the Meeting, ,( it later transpired that he was unwellj, and had to have some assistance to get home after the meeting.. Eord, Mr J. Wyatt (.ff-ol's>,Mr W.Eill ("Sick), Mr H-. Rumb all (.Work) . Mr E.Pomphrett • did not attend(Work?)'. The Minutes of the Meeting held on' 5th October 1985 were read out to those present, and all were agreed that they were an accurate record of that Meeting..- The Minutes were signed as approved by ' the Chairman'. There were no matters arising, other than the continua.tion of interest in trying to relieve Mr Newman of the burden.of distributing "Si-gnpost"-. This had been raised at ~ that Meeting by Mr J .Scrutton.. A 00nsiderable amount of time was taken on this matter(to the eventual detriment of the Meeting)', and opinions varied widely. They ranged from those of -Mr T..V/ooder, who thinks that the magazine should b,e put out to print with the attendant increase in sub's, to those of Jdr W. Newman, who is ;opp.osed to anj) increase in sub's and thinks that ^le could get by with virtually no increase in cost enough to v/arrant such an increase in sub's. He. looks upon this as "providing a service'.' He gave some figures to support his views, but said that if the Motion to have the magazine sent through the Post was carried at the forth.com ing AGM, ,a doubling of sub's should .co ver the cost. There was further discussion as^to whether the doubling of -sub.'s would be sufficient, or, too. much, and,, as time was running out, th.e Chairman called for a tote with the following result:- Sub's at Annual.Rate - £1.50. ( £2.00 Married'couple)• " Commuted "• - £6,00. ( £8.00 " " ) -: from the date of the AGM. • ' Again, regarding the distribution of the magazine, Mr W.Moore 'ecided that he would like to continue his present delivery of those in his area, which has worked in the main satisfactorily. Mr Newman then' said that he would like to continue, his present deliveries vvith a little more af5sistance v/ith .those disposed of at Paslow Gommon.. Thus it would seem that the bulk posting of the magazne is .not required.. There was .some mention of names'"and addresses typed on covers which had worn off in the.Post causing delay in delivery. In Correspondence, a letter from a Mr P.Copp, al'".4'GH/femember, and-Editor of "The Pedaller"(the magazine of the West Sussex D.A^ was read out. It was a very lengthy one, based on suggestions of dealing . with'an increase in sub's, subsequent to the posting of the magazine. There were some good points in it, one of which was- that the Club: Year should run from April^O^Iay in the following year, (leaving the approximate date of the AGM as it is). This would mean, if adopted, that the current year would be one of.15'months. There was.some uncertainty as to what would be^ the position of those who had already paid their sub's, with a suggestion that they might be induced to make the difference later.. The Chairman and Mr Moore, -and Mr Vesper •' /wer were in favour, of this step.. • ^— Another letter from.a Mr J.Sha.w of Marlo.w, also a member,, enquired as to the frequency and venue, of Committee Meetings?? He is a member of the PCOT, who have an Electric Typewriter surplus to requirements, which they would make available to us (his words) at a very modest charge. He offered it on trial loan- to our Editor without obligation., Mr Shaw also indicate^d tha.t he would be happy to lead a Car Assisted r\in from his home,, providing "eievehses" and tea.. He would need to know the mileage we would prefer..He did inferthat as we no. longer advertise, it could Impede recruitment for a 40+ Section in his area.. ... Other letters as follows from:.- Mr .F V/right, -withdrawing a ^^otion submitted for the AGM. Mrs E.Paine, - regarding an entry of names under "News of Members" Sept'1985 "•'-'ignpost", and pointing out that some of those mentioned were no longer Members. The Gen'Sec'y did not make this entry when coJmpillng this^ coliimn-. Mrs G.G-ardner, - concerning the issue df Rule Books whilst she was Secretary, following the publication of Club Rules in the Dec'1985 "Signpost" ' • Mr W. Coombes, - in appreciation of the presentation of a Tankard on his 80th ""irthday, and the attendant gathering. Epping ^'orest D.C. - confirming that- our request for attention'to be given to potholes on the B1393 will be co;mplied with, Mr W.Hill, - suggesting that we consider for Hon'Vice Presidents our two remaining Pounder Members. Mr E.Engel, - offering an address of printers at Bognor. . Few members came to a total of 15.. The,Treasurers Report -for the AGM was not yet finalised, but the one produced for the last Quarter was considered satisfactory.. The Motions on hand for the £orthcoming AGM (a total of 14) could not beV'dealt with (as forseen by the Gen'Sec'f)! owing-to the la,ck of time.., Any other Business could not be pursued for the same reason. The Meeting closed at 12.50pm. • 40 PLUS:; ' o. o »

Mr. W. Turner took the chair. Eve Engel and John Rainbow were on holiday arid both sent their apologies for non-attendance, March 22nd minutes read, . . . . Matters Arising > ^ 100 Mile Ride: Secretary reported that agreement had.been reached with Doug Brunwin for the club to contribute up to £50 towards covering any deficiency arising from the event and should the loss be greater Doug had' kindly offered to cover it himself; badges to be awarded, Jim Stev.ens had only one small hiccup on the new policy of posting •Signpost', the rest of the Committee had heard no complaints and were happy with the new Plastic Wrappings and endorsed their continued use. Secretary's Report. Anna Ishton is now East Herts Secretary having taken over on Bill Hill*s X death. ^ A letter had been received from Eve Engel, proposing a £10 donation to a charity on a member's death instead of having collections. It was thought tMs was impracticable because it is often not known when members die, it would also be a heavy liability on club funds, and that a personel donatior '"or a friend was a tribute to them, Jim Shaw wrote asking permission to advertise the 'Pbrty Plus' in his locality at libraries etc. This was agreed to. ' Jim also stated, he ,ld like to see a lunch take place after the A.G.M., e A.G.Mi has been booked at Union Jack Club on January 3Sst 1987, Treasurer's and Membership Secretary's Report. Ow£)o balance is healthy, and there have been twlanty-two new members,. Badge Competitiom Only one design received, but one or two other ideas were muted at meeting An enquiry-had been made of cost of making a die and it would seem even a simple design would be in the regions of £150, which makes feasibilty of same from an economic view unlikely. The committee were under the impressiom that the withdrawal of Tankards was an unpopular mowe, and it was suggested that at the A.G.M. a motion should be raised to re-instate presentations as before. It was thought that a referendum should be taken through 'Signpost', to get the general feeling of all club members before the A.G.M. Any other business. Bill Netfnan reported that he had bought a secondhand Gestetner Duplicator for £5, as stock for spares, but by replacing a. few parts on the new aquisition-has found this better than the original. It was agreed that Jp?y Cheesman should hold original one, which would then be available to tne 'Signpost' printer should it be required. Bill feels an electric duplicator has built-in dis-advantages. Rose said a new Members List is now being typed be Eva. Eva feels the present typewriter is better for stencils than an electric one. Date of the next Committee Meeting October 18th, It was agreed that in future a Committee Meeting be held just before an A.G.M., and one 3ust after A.G.M., keeping to four meetings a year. Grace Gardner is now In St. Christopher's Hospice, gawrie Park, S.E.26,, visitors are welcome but not on Mondays, Bill Turner read a letter he had received from Charlie Merrit, there were no comments, Ernie Vesper had received a belated reply regarding 10 year presentation for George Hewitt from his son Doug asking presentation to be booktoken, it was agreed to send £10 voucher.

Note from General Secretary- Maisie Wrights This list was produced with the kind permission of the Cycle Club of Islington, their booklet being used as a basis for our list. It being impossible for me to personally verify cafes, every endeavour has been made to up-date it with the co-operation of our members. I have left off Little Chefs and Happy Eaters as lists of these caterers are available from- their cafes - to have included pubs would have made the list unwieldy, so these have been omitted. If wanted, however, I would be prepared to collate together a pub list, but think it best if such a list be kept down to inns who do meals on Sundays, as so many cater in the week. To make such a list -I would need the help of the Forty- Plus membership. Please let me know of any corrections, i.e. openings on Sundays etc., closures or new cafes so that amendments can be published as they occur. "7 1^^^
