Visual Studio 2019 is large, heavy- weight, and can create applications with graphical user interfaces, for example, Windows Forms, WPF, UWP, and Xamarin.Forms mobile apps, but it is only available on Windows. Visual Studio Code is smaller, lighter-weight, code-focused, supports many more languages, and is available cross-platform. In 2021, with the release of .NET 6 and .NET Multi-platform App User Interface (MAUI), Visual Studio Code will get an extension that enables building user interfaces for desktop and mobile apps.
