This quarterly publication will advise all schools of recent AFL events for teachers and school aged children through out the Northern Territory, keeping teachers up to date on competitions, events and programs that the AFL and AFL Northern Territory offer.

School Ambassadors Program

The importance of AFL programs into our Primary and Secondary schools has prompted the AFL to deliver annual training days across Australia. Earlier this term teachers were invited to attend an AFL induction day where teachers were trained up on all of the fantastic curriculum resource the AFL offer including, AFL Sport Education, 1SEVEN, Our National Game, AFL Heritage and new curriculum resources It’s More than a Game and You Can Kick GOALS.

School Ambassadors were provided with a fully funded Professional Development Day and supplied with the following information:

• Role and expectations of the AFL School Ambassador

• Resources and support available including current football programs available to schools

• Practical PE activities and Cross-curricular activities involving a football theme

This years training day was held at TIO Stadium and was attended by more than 30 teachers from Darwin and Palmerston. An induction day was also held in Alice Springs this year.

Most AFLSA will professionally develop other staff members in all aspects of AFL programs, ensure their school is participating in all football programs, promote their programs through the media and school newsletter and act as a contact person for local junior and senior community clubs.
