We are committed to our student-athletes and will do our best to develop their skills both in and out of the classroom. Maverick teams have a rich history of excellence on and off the playing field. One of the primary goals of our athletic program is to accentuate the development of the whole student and help them achieve a personal level of excellence in the areas of academics, fitness, teamwork, commitment, respect for others and sportsmanship. Currently, we field 33 varsity, 19 junior varsity, 2 freshman and 2 club teams. Over the past 22 years our varsity teams have won 96 district team titles, 36 regional team titles, 12 team state championships (seven in baseball, three in women’s golf, one in men’s volleyball and one in women’s soccer), 7 team state runner-up and 10 individual state championships. At the national level, our baseball team has won two National Titles, one FCDA National Championship in Dance, and two individual National Champions in wrestling. Throughout our school’s history, the varsity sports program has maintained a winning percentage of close to 70%.

In 2017-2018 our winter and spring teams, and in 2018-2019, our fall, winter and spring teams, were named FHSAA Overall 6A Team Academic Champions. Overall, our varsity teams averaged an un- weighted GPA of a 3.0 or higher. The athletic department is very proud of these accomplishments, as our coaches work hard to maintain the values and philosophies of the school.

Individually, over the last 22 years, 230 of our athletes have earned First Team All-County Honors in a variety of sports by the local media, and 255 have signed college scholarships to continue both their academic and athletic careers.

While in high school I encourage you to become involved, whether it’s in athletics and/or other extra- curricular activities. Archbishop McCarthy boasts over 60% student participation rate in sports. We are extremely proud to have such a large portion of our student body competing in athletics. Our sports program provides you with the opportunity to participate, but what you achieve with this opportunity is in your hands. Please keep in mind that a number of our athletic programs have a selection process and start dates are set by the FHSAA.

Individually, over the last 21 years, 223 of our athletes have earned First Team All-County Honors in a variety of sports by the local media, and 245 have signed college scholarships to continue both their academic and athletic careers.
