Weather Forecast

Synoptic Situation: The well-marked low over Northwest Bay and adjoining area moved northwestwards and weakened in to a low pressure and merged with the monsoon axis. Monsoon axis runs through Punjab, Horiyana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal to Assam across Southern part of Bangladesh. One of its associated troughs extends to Northwest Bay. Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate elsewhere over North Bay.

Forecast: Light to moderate rain/T.showers accompanied by tempo. gusty/squally wind is likely to occur at many places over Dhaka, , Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions & at a few places over Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places.

 The Jamuna and the Ganges-Padma are in rising trend while the Brahmaputra and the Meghna river are in falling trend.

Next 24 hours

 The Jamuna and the Ganges-Padma river systems are likely to rise.  The Brahmaputra and the Meghna river system are likely to fall.  The rivers around Dhaka city are likely to fall.  The flood situation in Satkhira is likely to improve further.

Naogaon Flood situation is normal. 960 families in Manda and 1100 families in Atrai have been affected since embankment has been breached in some places and water entered into these . The affected people took shelter in schools, colleges, madrasas and narrow strips of the road side high lands. Among displaced people around 47% are children needed extra attention to protect their rights to childhood activities and development. About 23500 children from the age of 10 to 17 needed support and environment to continue their education so that they could take part in three imminent public examinations (Primary final, Junior Secondary final and Secondary School final) to be held from early November 2011 to January 2012. UNICEF committed to ensure special protection for the most disadvantaged children affected by disaster.

In regards to water logging in Satkhira, UNICEF has provided emergency response support through government and NGO partners to protect children and their families. As of September 11, 2011 UNICEF distributed 10,000 family kits (each kit contains 20 nos household items) to affected households through NGO partners in 13 Unions of Satkhira Sadar, Tala and Debhata upazila under Satkhira district. Through DPHE, UNICEF supported WASH by providing following:

 Tube well rising- 82 nos.  Temp. Tube well Installed in the shelter - 34 nos.  Temp. Latrine installed in the shelter - 181 no.  WPT distribution– 122,000 nos.  Bleaching powder distribution – 200 Kg.
