On a June evening the club were invited to look around 6 gardens in Lower Almondsbury. It was a rather grey evening but a fair number arrived at the allotted time and we entered into the first example. A modest size accessed through a garage, the garden was a tranquil haven with plants of interest in all parts, which included a pond and a raised Oriental seating area to admire the view. It achieved seclusion with use of trees and shrubs also pots utilising all space available containing roses, fuchsias, Hosta’s among others. The next garden was bigger and had different paved seating areas to maximise the use of the walled outdoor space. The pergola looked across the lawn allowing swaying views of the varied clematis, trees and flower borders. With raised beds utilised for vegetables runner beans, onions and salad crops. A short walk to the third garden, which was hidden from view until the drive opened out to the most wonderful view of the Severn valley with the Severn Bridge completing the vista. A beautiful setting, with an orchard and wildflower meadow to complete the garden. The largest garden was next which opened out unexpectedly with lovely flower borders containing angelica unfortunately victim of the harsh winds. But the land had a sizable vegetable plot using raised bed system with many crops fruit bushes, potatoes and broad beans. Also a very quaint summer-house on a high vantage point to sit and enjoy the gardens views.

Just around the corner the 5th garden was full of home grown plants raised and cared for by the owners. Well known for their plant sales the club hope to have a date next May for buying plants.
