Lady Elliott Circuit Port Macquarie. Named after the Lady Elliott lighthouse at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef.

Lady Evelyn Gold mining lease at The Cells sold by Andrews Bros. to a Melbourne syndicate for £18,000 6 Jun 1896.

Lady Nelson Very early name for Town Beach because the ship “Lady Nelson” Beach was beached and repaired there with the first fleet in April 1821. (See Australian, 4 Jan 1840).

Lady Nelson Drive Port Macquarie. The ship ‘Lady Nelson’ was one of the first three ships to bring soldiers and convicts to Port Macquarie in April 1821. The ship lost her rudder and stern post when attempting to leave Port Macquarie on the 2 May 1821.

Laguna Place Port Macquarie. Name is supposedly of Aboriginal origin.

Lake Innes A perennial lake (lagoon) about 8km SW of the town of Port Gazetted: 23 March Macquarie. Origin: INNES LAKE so named after Archibald Clunes 1973 Innes. Name changed from Lake Burrawan when Major Mitchell approved Major A.C. Innes application for a grant of land bordering the Lake. Major Innes named his house there 'Innes Mansion'. Previously named Burrowan; Burrawan, believed to refer to the burrawang nut which the traditional owners of the land used to make a type of brown flour. Lake Innes A locality/suburb located near the perennial lake of the same Gazetted: 11 Aug 2000 name about 8km SW of the town Port Macquarie. Assigned by Erratum 16 June 2000. (Omitted 16 April 1993).

Lake Road Believed to be the road that was used to go to Lake Innes Reserve before it was diverted across to the Oxley Highway.

Lasiandra Park A reserve for public recreation situated on the corner of Cameron Gazetted: 28 Jun 1991 Street and Blackbutt Drive, Wauchope. Origin: The town of Wauchope has adopted the Lasiandra tree as its community emblem and has an annual Lasiandra Festival. Formerly State Forest, area revoked as part of Broken Bago State Forest in 1987 when Council accepted care and control of the area.

Latimores Road Comboyne. The road leading to the property owned by T C Latimore.

Laura Cottage Port Macquarie. Possibly James Blair owned this - his daughter Laura Annie married there in 1894.

Laurel Street Kendall. So named for the large camphor laurel tree that used to grow there. It was removed for road widening.

Laurie Park A reserve in the town of Laurieton bounded by Bold Street, Kew Gazetted: 27 Oct 1989 Road and Castle street. Named after R. L. (Mac) Laurie, who passed away on the 14th December 1988. He was the direct grandson of the founder of the village of Laurieton, Joseph Laurie, and a prominent worker for the community. Originally called Remembrance Park. Laurieton Town on the River below North Brother Mountain. Gazetted: 16 Apr 1993 Originally known as Peach Orchard. It was recommended to the Post Master General that a Post Office be erected at Peach Orchard and the name be changed to Laurie Town after the Laurie brothers. The Laurie brothers Andrew, Alexander and Joseph, arrived in 1840 to build a timber Mill. (Joseph Laurie had a timber mill there in 1875.) The Post Master General’s Office agreed to the erection of the post office; however the town was named Laurieton.

Letterewe Alexander Bain’s family property at Wauchope, stretching from the to Bago Mountains. The name comes from a Gaelic word meaning bank or river. Named after a large estate in Ross County Scotland where Alexander was born.

Lighthouse Beach A beach starting south of Tacking Point and running south to Lake Gazetted: 22 Dec 1972 Cathie. Lighthouse Gully A stream rising about 3.5km SSE of town of Port Macquarie. It Gazetted: 29 June 1973 flows generally SE for about 1km into the South Pacific Ocean near Tacking Point. Previous name Lighthouse Creek.

Lightning Ridge A ridge extending in SE direction for about 6.4km from the range Gazetted: 22 Nov 1968 about 2.8km SW of Mount Banda Banda to the Wilson River - Cascade Creek Junction.

Lime Station Located between the Wilson and Macleay Rivers - the site of lime works. (See 'Wilson River News' PMN, 17 Apr 1915).

Limeburners Creek (1) A watercourse approx. 15km long originating in Saltwater Lake west of Point Plomer running south into the Hastings River near Settlement Point. Convicts used to make lime for brick mortar from oysters which were burnt and crushed. Limeburners Creek produced some 80% of lime for the Hastings River settlement. (2) Another creek running into Queens Lake at Laurieton was also named Limeburners for the same reason. (3) Captain Highman was given a grant of land in this location.

Limeburners Creek A large nature reserve administered by the NPWS. It extends Nature Reserve along Limeburners Creek and northwards along the coast to Big Gazetted: 14 Nov 1975 Hill Point. Assigned on 14/11/75.

Limeburners Flat A flat on the western banks of Limeburners Creek. It is about Gazetted: 22 Dec 1972 2.5km W of Village.

Lincoln Hall George Andrews built it in 1907- in Bago Road - now Cameron St - Wauchope (see PMN, 27 Aug 1921, p.4). John Suters lived here in 1921.

Lindfield Park Property north of Lake Innes on the Oxley Highway west of Port Macquarie near Thrumster. Lindfield Road runs nearby.

Little Stony Gully A partly perennial stream rising 6.5km NNE of the village of Johns Gazetted: 23 Feb 1973 River. It flows generally SE for about 2km into Stony Creek. Previous name Little Stony Creek.

Little Toms Creek A partly perennial stream rising about 4.5km SW of the town of Gazetted: 10 Jan 1969 Comboyne. It flows generally north by west for about 4.8km into Toms Creek.

Little Upsalls Gully A non -perennial stream rising about 2.5km NE of Mount Kophi. It Gazetted: 14 Feb 1969 flows generally ENE for about 2.5km into Upsalls Creek. Previous name Little Upsel Creek.

Llanthony Property south of the Hastings River just north of Bagnoo on the Oxley Highway. Name is Welsh and was brought in by Thomas Browning, an early settler. See also L'anthony.

Lone Pine Hill A prominent hill on the S. edge of Comboyne Plateau about Gazetted: 14 Feb 1969 0.75km SE of Mount Gilbraltar and about 1.25 km S.W. of Mount Kophi. Previous name Lone Pine Mountain.

Lonely Point Station on the south bank of the Hastings River on north side of the Oxley Highway about 5km W of Ellenborough. Home of James and Sarah Gibbons in the 1850s. (Source: History of Long Flat, p.11). See Long Flat.

Lonesome Pines Property on Frazers Road north of Beechwood.

Long Bridge A footbridge that was in Bridge Street Port Macquarie - in 1844 this connected Port Macquarie (East) with Port Macquarie (West). (see T. Dick article PMN, 9 Jul 1921, p.4). Foot bridge used to transport rock from Aston Hill to the southern break wall during construction.

Long Creek A partly perennial stream rising about 0.75km SE of Innes Trig Gazetted: 14 Feb 1969 Station. It flows generally north for about 8.8km into Ellenborough River. Previous name Kooloonbung Creek.

Long Flat A village locality on the southern bank of the Hastings River about Gazetted: 16 Apr 1993 2km ENE of Ellenborough and about 7km SE of the village of Kindee. Originally named ‘Lonely Point’ by Thomas Henry around 1850. It was a part of the Henry property which they settled around 1856. The area was used for bridle races and then emerged as a village from the Travellers Rest Hotel as other businesses came.

Long Ridge A ridge forming the watershed between Stony and Toms Creeks, Gazetted: 14 Feb 1969 extending in a northerly direction for about 5.2km from an unnamed range to the junction of Stony Creek and Toms Creek.

Longworth Road . Named after the Longworth family who were early settlers and pioneers of the timber industry in the Camden Haven.

Loop Road Northern loop road which runs around Upper Rollands Plains settlement. Lord Street Possibly named after Simeon Lord who was an ex-convict. He became a prominent man in Sydney. In the 1820s he was a ship owner and one of the earliest cedar traders. Lord Street was named before 1936.

Loudon Channel Channel between Rawdon Island North and the mainland - later became Munns Channel. Runs northwards around Rawdon Island - western side named after a family name in Francis Rawdon Hastings first Marquis of Hastings. Previously known as Loudon Branch (Source ‘An Historical Account of the Colony of and its Dependant Settlements’ by James Wallis).

Lovers walk Lovers Walk was a track along the foreshore from the top of Hill Street. It ran for a couple of hundred yards. (See PMN, 16 Jan 1991). South of Windmill Hill (absorbed to become part of Pacific Drive). A popular place for lovers to stroll along. (see David Martin, Port Macquarie Then and Now 2014, pp.179 & 197).

Lower Falls A waterfall on the Hastings River about 11km NE of Mount Gazetted: 14 Feb 1969 Seaview. It has a total drop 320 feet.
