Running Like the Wind SPCA of Texas Dedicates Sculpture “Born to Run” at Perry Campus in McKinney

The SPCA of Texas proudly unveiled the statue entitled “Born to Run” commissioned by Myron K. Martin and donated to mark the entrance of the SPCA’s Phoebe Perry Campus in McKinney on Saturday, October 28 at 11 a.m.

The morning’s program consisted of a few words spoken about the statue by SPCA President James Bias and SPCA Board Chair Rugger Burke in order to honor the spirit of volunteerism exemplified by emeritus board member Myron K. Martin.

The larger than life bronze statue, created by noted artist and sculptor Lorenzo Ghiglieri, depicts a mare and her foal running with joyous abandon, a physical manifestation and emblem for the campus.

A tour of the Perry Campus immediately followed the unveiling.

The dogs, most of which are un-socialized, had been living in a cruel confi nement situation—many of them locked or wired shut in crates, others held in pens or running loose and all of them forced to live in their own excrement—at the property, which was inside the city of Paris, TX.

The property owner, Donald Mark Gore, had been reportedly feeding the dogs, and empty dog food cans were strewn about, but Gore had not been supplying the dogs with water nor had he been cleaning the property. Many of these dogs needed immediate and ongoing medical care because of hair loss, serious eye conditions, cuts, scrapes and scarring.
