Searching for emails To search for old emails, use the search !eld to search by name, email address, subject, message content, or whatever you can remember about the message.

Search !eld

Notice that it will start trying to help you !nd what you are looking for. If you see what you're looking for in this list, click on it. Otherwise, just type what you're searching for and hit the return key. Another thing to notice is that in the bar along the top, it's telling you where it's searching. By default, it searches everywhere, but you can narrow that search down to a speci!c folder by clicking on one of the choices in the bar. Narrow your search by clicking on one of these choices. These choices will change depending on which folder you started in.

You can also click on a "search token" to reveal more surprises.

For more information on search tokens, visit the following website http://www.maclife.com/article/howtos/how_use_search_tokens_lion_mail

Organizing your email You may already have folders setup. See the section about viewing the sidebar to see those folders. The !rst thing to know about creating folders in mail is that they are called "mailboxes" in this application. To create a new mailbox, click on the plus (+) sign at the bottom left corner of your window and select "new mailbox."

Click on the + button

Select "New Mailbox..."

Anytime you see an ellipsis (...) in a menu, it means that it's going to ask you more questions before it executes the action. In this case, it's going to ask us where to put the mailbox and what to call it. In the location section, you'll want to select "gmail" or whatever descriptive name you gave to your LHN email. This will allow you to access the mailbox and any mail inside of it on gmail.com, another computer, or another device. The other choice, "On My Mac," will save that email to the computer only and could cause issues later if you change computers.

The location of the mailbox (on Mac or on the email server)

This is what you'd like to name your mailbox.

You can make as many mailboxes as you like, so be as general or as speci!c as you need to be. Click OK, and you will see your new mailbox in the sidebar. If you cannot see it, refer back to the !rst section that discusses viewing your sidebar.

Set up shortcuts to your favorite places The bar directly under your toolbar is a place to store your favorites places in mail. If you would like quick access to one of your folders, simply drag it into that bar and you will be able to access it from there. To remove a shortcut, just grab it and drag it downward.

Have a lot of folders to go through? Drag a folder into the toolbar to make a shortcut to it. Moving mail into your mailboxes (folders) To move an email into a folder, just select it and drag it in. You can also select a group of using your command or shift key and move them all at one time.

Drag an email or group of emails into a folder

If you don't like to drag, give that message a secondary click and get options to move, copy and more (a secondary click is either a control-click, 2 !nger click, or right click. You can set this up in your under mouse or trackpad).

A secondary click (also known as a right click) on an email will reveal many actions that you can take on an email, including moving or copying to folders. Sending attachments You can send attachments in a few different ways. If you are already composing a mail message, click on the paperclip icon. (Note that this button will only show up when you are composing a message.)

Attach a !le

Locate the !le that you want to send and click "Choose File" to attach it to your message.

Find a !le to attach

Click Choose File

Another way to attach a !le is to drag the !le from the !nder right on top of the mail icon in the dock. A new mail message will be created with that !le attached.

Or simply drag a !le on top of the mail icon in the dock
