OUR OPINION Continued progress at college

fter 10 years, dorm life is returning to Florida Gateway College. We are glad to see it. A FGC reinstated college athletics recently, and on-campus housing is a natural complement, as many of the recruits will likely live too far away to commute. The new digs are nice, if not fancy, as reporter Corey Arwood learned during a personal tour last week. A common area sits at the entrance, followed by the future home of the resident life coordinator, who will oversee the day to day needs of the stu- dents living there, he wrote. Bathrooms, and bathing areas are down the hallway — male on one side, female on the other — with free in-house laundry facilities. Beyond are the living spaces in newly carpeted hallways designed to reduce noise, with surveil- lance cameras located at the far end of each. All in all, it’s a nice setup — and another step in the right direction for our hometown college. Hats off to FGC. Along with the issues that have been grouped, the Style and Drafting Committee also decided to let six other constitutional changes remain as “stand-” proposals. One proposal (P39) is an ethics measure, which includes a six-year lobbying ban for former public officials, while the other (P93) would allow the creation of “innovation” school districts. Four other measures were left as stand-alone proposals because they were initially endorsed by the commission in votes that fell short of the 22 that will be necessary for any constitutional change to be placed on the ballot. What’s wrong with Jordan?: Spieth fell to a tie for 11th last year, ending a three-year run where he didn’t finish out of the top two at Augusta. His performance this year hasn’t been up to his standards, but never count him out at Augusta.

Sergio Garcia: The Spaniard broke through last year at Augusta National for his first major win and comes to Augusta as a family man after his marriage last summer and the birth of baby daughter Azalea in March.

Advantage for lefties: Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson have already won this season, and southpaws have won six times at the Masters since 2003.
