Word and Sacrament was the work of the ordained ministry. They both taught that those who suggested that the priesthood of all the faithful meant that there was no necessity for ordained ministers misrepresented the intentions of Scripture.

Christ has formed the baptized into a priestly community (LG 10). The laity exercises their priestly ministry through active participation in the Liturgy, celebration and reception of the sacraments, personal and communal prayer and by living with justice and love.

Once we understand that the baptized constitute a Vatican II teaches that all those who are baptized priestly community, Mass attendance becomes not participate in the priesthood of Christ (Lumen merely some legal obligation but a participation in Gentium, 10). Participation in this priesthood enables the work of Christ. Then as many parishioners as all the baptized to offer the Mass for the peace and possible would attend baptisms and the reception of salvation of all the world as Christ prays through the other sacraments, even when they happen them, with them and in them in the unity of the Holy outside of Mass, because they would want to Spirit. The existence of the common or royal priesthood is a result of baptism and by the Holy Spirit. In the ancient world, where Christians knew only of the priesthood in Judaism that was inherited from father to son and the elected priesthood of Roman and Greek society, to discover that each woman and man had been consecrated into a royal priesthood through baptism caused the community to look at itself in a new light (1 Peter 2:9).

There was some resistance to the language of common/royal priesthood from some bishops at Vatican II. Luther and other reformers had championed the concept in the 16th century and this Protestant association made it difficult for some bishops to accept at a time when many Catholics were less open to ecumenism.

Luther and Calvin, who both emphasized the priesthood of all the baptized, also firmly held to the belief that Scripture taught that the ministry of the I am the Vine, You are the Branches

The work of being parish is not relegated only to those who are ordained, or those who have taken the evangelical vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. Rather, the work of being parish falls upon all the Baptized. Each of us, in our own way, is called to build up the community of the Church by making up whatever is lacking in the suffering of Christ for the good of the Church. Each one of us have been called and chosen to bear Christ’s life into the world.

Here is a list of those who help out in a consistent manner to complete the work of the Church. Without their dedicated effort and input, our parish would not be able to accomplish the task of proclaiming the Good News, of providing for the needy, or of being a refuge for those seeking the presence of God in the midst of an oftentimes harsh and cruel world. The life of Christ is at work in us, so that our deeds may bear fruit in the Kingdom of God.
