Grace News October 19, 2018

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances;” (1 Thess. 5:16-17)

This weekend we will be starting a sermon series titled, “Conversations with God”. In this series we will discuss prayer. As I have been working through this series, I kept asking myself; why is prayer so hard? Maybe we over-spiritualize it. We think we have to pray long and eloquent for it to work. We measure ourselves to others and feel unqualified. Sometimes we look at prayer as something we do at meetings or in our quiet time. When do you pray?

One of my favorite quotes about prayer is from a movie called “Evan Almighty”. I included the link below if you want to watch the scene. In this scene, a woman is praying for her family to become closer. What she is looking for is what we usually want out of prayer which is an immediate answer. Instead she hears this… “If someone prayed for their family to be closer, do you think God zaps them with warm fuzzy feelings, or does he give them opportunities to love each other?” As we pray, don’t get discouraged that you don’t receive an immediate answer but instead look for the opportunities that God places before you.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." (Matthew 7:7) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ikes4yPulmI

The money will be used by the school to create and enhance the new Maker Space room, specifically with many new Ozobots. Thank you to those who supported the golf outing through your sponsorships, attendance, purchases of auction items, and volunteering.
