2 days a week over 48 days (6 months approx.) @ 9.80 p/h

About Cinenova:

Cinenova is an artist-run charity dedicated to preserving and distributing the work of women/feminist film and video makers. Cinenova currently distributes over 500 titles that include artists’ moving image, experimental film, narrative feature films, documentary and educational videos made from the 1920s to the present. The thematics in these titles include oppositional histories, post-colonial struggles, reproductive labour, representation of gender, race, sexuality, and importantly, the relations and alliances between these different struggles.

Cinenova was founded in 1991 following the merger of two feminist film and video distributors, Circles and Cinema of Women, each formed in the early 1980s. Since 2001, Cinenova has been run on a voluntary basis by artists and curators, known as the Cinenova Working Group, dedicated to the constellation of films, histories and politics that make up Cinenova, believing in the necessity of keeping the collection together and autonomous, rather than dispersed into larger and more general archives.

As well as the hire of film and video prints for screenings throughout the UK and internationally, Cinenova has worked in recent years on significant exhibition projects that include Select and Dispossess, Kunsthalle Exnergasse, Vienna (2013); Bodies Assembling, Auto Italia, London (2011); Group Affinity, Kunstverein Muenchen (2011); Reproductive Labour, The Showroom, London (2011).

Recent venues, festivals and academic institutions that have screened work from the Cinenova collection include , Barbian, BFI Southbank, , Calvert 22, The Watershed, Bristol, The Star and Shadow, Newcastle, Transmission Gallery, Glasgow, Light Industry, New York, MCAC Geneva, Kunst-Werke Berlin, London Feminist Film Festival, BFI London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, London Palestinian Film Festival, Oberhausen Film Festival, Doc Lisboa, Berlin Biennale, Academy of Fine Art, Vienna, Goldsmiths, York University, Toronto.

About the Internship:

This role offers the opportunity to work alongside the Cinenova Working Group in various capacities, largely assisting with day-to-day administration involved in the hiring of film prints and videos: • Processing requests for screenings: preparing video materials; digitizing titles where necessary; sending out associated stills and texts; coordinating between couriers and the hirer • Special projects, primarily the digitization of the collection and paper archive (an ongoing project). • There is also the potential for research; both historical, into the collection itself, and contemporary, as part of a wider ongoing project to extend the current collection with contemporary works (the last title was acquired in 2001). • Other admin potentially including: updating website and social media; assisting with book keeping and other financial tasks. • Joining monthly Cinenova Working Group meetings to discuss workload, projects and funding • Liasing with The Showroom when needed regarding the digital archive, bookings and possible events and queries related to this • Updating social media channels including, Facebook and Twitter

Role Requirements: The role would suit anyone with an interest in feminist practices and politics, as well as interest in moving image work. No specific skills are required as there is a range of tasks which can be learned. However having some basic experience of working with video (eg Final Cut Pro) would be an advantage but not essential. As the organisation is so small the role will offer the opportunity to become familiar with all areas of the organisations’s work, and to become more familiar with the area of feminist moving image, not least to see, and research, potentially large numbers of works.

We want to offer these opportunities to those people who would benefit most from an internship at Tate both in terms of furthering their personal or professional development and who, in return, would have a new and different perspective to bring to our work.
