LWCF: Positively impacting for over 50 years.

■■ Outdoor recreation is important to NC’s economy. In this year’s budget, the NC general assembly provided funding to create an outdoor recreation recruitment director in the Department of Commerce. The new positon will promote NC’s outdoor recreation economy and will assist in the recruitment of new businesses to the state. ■■ During LWCF’s 50-year history, it has supported outdoor recreation in North Carolina by providing over $80 million dollars to fund over 1000 state and local projects in 97 of the state’s 100 counties. Every LWCF dollar is matched State Park with at least a dollar of state or local funds, or other grant funding. Protected with Land and Water Conservation Funds for countless generations $340,000 in active funding of future recreational use. LWCF funding received in 2010 and 2014 ■■ Since the grant’s inception, over 80% of the local and state LWCF projects in North Carolina have included development and/or renovation of recreational facilities for the public. ■■ LWCF has awarded over $5 million dollars of funding to District 10 for park acquisition and development for public use. ■■ Since the grant’s inception, over 3000 acres of state and local park lands have been protected in District 10 alone. ■■ Over the past 10 years more than 400 local government PARTF projects requesting over $115 million dollars have gone unfunded. If LWCF was funded at its full funding level, many of these projects could have been developed.
