HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

Government Degree College Gajwel was established in the year 1997 to serve the needs of the local youth. The department of Telugu of this college was established on PG 26.08.1997 as second language is subject for graduate students of this college. Telugu department established in the Year of 2015 -2016 academic year with 40 sanctioned intake. The first In-charge of department at the time of Inspection was Sri Dr. L.N

Acharya, at present Sri A. Balaswamy Assistant Professor of Telugu is the Head of the department. In this department most of the teaching staff has been well experienced with academic excellence and higher qualifications.

Telugu is imported to the students of Telugu and English medium of under graduate students as second language. The students are evaluated in paper I, II, III, and

IV at the end of semesters I, II, III and IV. The results of the department are very much encouraging and consistent. This department works for students to excel in the language skills by sensitizing them to participate in various cultural and literary activities like essay writing, Elocution Poetry Quiz, Story writing, poetry writing, singing, Classical and Folk dance, Mono action etc.,

THE OBJECTIVES OF LANGUAGE TEACHING

The global objectives of language teaching can be defined as helping students learn a language to perform a variety of functions. The main objective of teaching should be to help learners how to draw out their latent creativity. Every learner is born with a built-in language leaning mechanism. This mechanism gets activated when the learner is exposed to that language. What is therefore essential is to create an atmosphere where learning can take place.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DEPARTMENT

➢ Active participation of the students is encouraged by conducting seminars

regularly. ➢ Extension lectures are arranged periodically to give on opportunity to students to

interact with eminent Speakers. ➢ Soft skills training classes are conducted along with regular curriculum. ➢ Newspaper articles of eminent poet’s work and articles are kept available for the

ready reference. ➢ Seminars are conducted regularly in the class room.

PROFILE OF THE STUDENTS

All the students hail from the local community. A very large number of them come from the local Junior colleges and language skills are comparatively low.

Most of the students are from socially and economically backward classes and depend on scholarships for continuing their studies.

MODEL QUESTION PAPERS

The department maintains a collection of university question papers supplied by Osmania

University. The Model question paper is explained to the students of every class at the beginning of the academic year and before appearing to the final examinations.

The department also supplies copies of unused old question papers of earlier examinations to students.

The students are encouraged to approach the members of the staff for any further clarifications they might need during the year and before the University Examinations.

Department of Telugu maintains a Department Library. At present the department library has 400 books. Generally students take text books from central library the books from deportment library will be given to those students who are interested to do P. G Course in Telugu. ❖ During 6-7 March, 2018 Department has organized a two day National seminar on

“rendu dashaabdaala Telangaana saahityam – samaalochana”

❖ 17-11.2017 Department of Telugu has organised a One day work shop on Kathaa

Rachana – paata Rachan.

ACTION PLAN FOR 2013 – 2014

• The department proposes to acquire more reference books and teaching materials

for the department library.

• More number of extension lectures and guest lectures will be arranged in the

coming months.

• Proposals are sent to organize a UGC National Seminar in the month of January

2014.

• Minor Research project Proposals are submitted for approval.

• Planning to Introduce Telugu as optional (at UG level) for degree students.

• As PG courses are already sanctioned to this college, we are planned to start to

Post Graduate Telugu from next academic year.

The department of Telugu, Government Degree College, Gajwel and sri Sharada vaidika

Smartha Vidyalayam, village & Mandal Vargal, Siddipet District Telangana State decided to reach the memorandum of Understanding (MOU). With following points mentioned here under.

1. To conduct training programs together for the students of the two parties on cultural and spiritual awareness programs.

2.the students of Government Degree college Gajwel will be trained and imparted knowledge in Self employment programs and career opportunities.

3. The Department of Telugu will assist the Sri Sharada Vadika Smartha Vidyalayam, in providing human resources for skill and personality development initiaves.
